Part of me agrees, because norms and standards are important, but IF Trump does this, if you don't think whichever GOP Lunatic next sits behind the desk in the Oval won't use similar mechanisms to accomplish their aims, then I think you'll be painfully disappointed.
And you can make a MUCH better case that the proliferation of guns, the lack of healthcare (or hey - climate change!) is a national emergency than a few thousand desperate people looking for a new, safe home.
There's definitely a toothpaste out of the tube feel to all that Trump has done in tearing down norms of the office.
That said, I'd prefer we make some changes to the National Emergencies Act than follow his lead. Maybe better define an emergency, more oversight, etc
