The thing is, I don't see it as revolution or bust, but more that these things very seldom happen, and when you try and change things in any kind of major way, you nearly always end up with compromises that mean your initial vision is but a pale imitation of what's left. That's just the reality of these kind of things, and I sense Clinton got that through years of experience, whereas both Trump and Sanders don't get that and think they can change ala revolution rather than evolution.

I don't think Sanders or his supporters actually expected him to immediately deliver, uncompromised, the vision he outlined.

It is an eminently practical vision, universally embraced throughout the developed world. not even UK Tories prefer the American health care system, for instance. but of course in the American political context, becoming a modern country is much more complicated.

what Bernie's call for "Revolution" actually meant was getting young people and minorities to vote in local-level elections and become engaged in local politics, rather than just show-up for President every four years. not exactly Che Guevara.

Sanders' appeal, as opposed to Clinton, is the sense that he was truly committed to pursuing a modern political agenda, rather than Hillary, who many supposed was just paying lip service to disaffected victims of the US system, and who would have been perfectly happy to distance herself from it immediately upon taking office. Bernie's support is based more more on his apparent commitment and principle rather than expected results.

speaking of H.L. Mencken: ""Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard."

"“The Trump tax plan is heavily, heavily, skewed to the most wealthy, who will receive huge savings. At the same time, millions of low-income families – particularly single-parent households – will face an increase.”

You've sidestepped my point, I note.

“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

Written by a chap called H.L.Mencken... in 1920 !!

Just saying like... :coffee:
Or;
Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard...'The Sage of Baltimore'

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but Jill Stein has now raised $4.5m towards filing for vote recounts in three swing states. She'd need $7m to do so.

In theory those three going Clinton's way in a recount would reverse the result.
