Yeah certainly there are, and it's a valid comparison to make.
I don't think it'll actually happen though (in terms of the "end of the story" with Germany and World War), solely because Trump has come in at a time not effected by a Great Depression, which was the major boost for the NSDAP at the time.
I noted the similarities myself a week or so ago - but if a depression like that hit now, Trump would take the hit for it, not benefit from it.
I do think he will still closely parallel the Nazis in one key area - I think he will go big on infrastructure spending to increase employment in the short term.
Take the negative connotations of the word "Nazi" away from it and look at the situation objectively - a political renegade coming to power with extreme views, riding the wave of public discontent to electoral success over a complacent perceived elite.
You'd have to be blind not to see the correlation.

Oh come on Tubey, I'm as big a critic as Trump as the next person, but he's not the next Adolf Hitler.
Again, I'm not saying he is - I'm saying his rise to power can be paralleled with Hitler. I'm not saying the outcome is the same, and Trump will try and start an American Reich.

Well I was responding to the question "are there enough parallels for the same thing to happen again", nor "are there any parallels?" - I would agree with the latter that there are some.
I do think it's a bit of an overreaction to be making those comparisons. He has more in common with Reagan and Thatcher than he has in common with Hitler or Mussolini, for example.

I was thinking he could be Hindenburg in that narrative.
We have yet to see if there is someone cunning enough to seize on this moment and build the foundations for something more sinister but the door is open and it is up to us all to be aware it could happen and to do all we can to prevent it happening again.
Bigotry and hate must be met head on and nobody deserves to be marginalised because of the circumstances of their birth.
Otherwise will it will happen again in some form or other somewhere in the world where it could impact on every one of us.
