Not too sure on that, Bretix and Trump (if he wins) and Leicester for that matter were/are 'one offs'. The right might make short term gains, but they do that every so often. Your everyday sausage eater, clog wearer and surrender monkey are, on the sly, a bit of a leftie at heart.

I'm not sure what there is to feel confident about to be honest. In France, it seems likely that the final two will be Le Pen or a Sarkozy that has veered further right than he was when last in office. Merkel has been in office for a long time now, the kind of time by which many voters might want a change regardless of how good a job she's done.
