2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Free transfers usually get a higher wage though right?

I suppose we have to look at it like that

If he were not with us and available on a free would we take him and at how much?

If we were linked with him on a free would you not be interested, considering our need for squad building?

Not necessarily. Sometimes they get big signing on fees to sweeten the deal. I'm more just talking about his stock in general, let's say his contract was up last summer and he went to Newcastle, I'm very confident he'd be getting better terms than what he will if he leaves to them this summer.

I think he's been on 50/60 k per week on this deal. I think he'll get more than that on his next deal, but not the 100k per week that we supposedly offered him last year.

I don't think anybody has been particuarly cruel. Fact of the matter is that him/his wife, and father for that matter, seem to have very thin skin and can't handle any criticism. He's in a cut throat world, and he's been paid in the region of £20 million in the last 4 years by our club and scored 17 league goals. Do they really expect universal praise for him? They're either very naive or just complete tits. Anybody who isn't consistently good for 10+ years will get criticised by somebody at some point. Dom has been consistently good for about 12-18 months so any stick he's had is par for the course really.

Can some criticism go over the top? Of course, but that's the world he's in, and he's been paid handsomely for it. I don't hate him as a player, I always try to back anybody as long as they appear to try, but he's not been good enough for 4 seasons now.
Fair enough, maybe cruel wasn't the right word & I do agree with some of your points.

All fair points
It's not just the wages and only cost 1.5mil though because we'd have to replace him with a wage and a fee too even if only 20mil

I think he'd be a great rotation option and presume we are either upgrading or Beto starts the season but he probably doesn't want that so he probably is gone anyway.

It does help we didn't pay a lot for him though as well as having to pay to replace

I personally would rather pay the money for someone maybe a bit younger than Beto who potentially has a higher ceiling. Maybe we bring in an older, more experienced head on loan or on a free in addition to that as well. Send Chermitti out on loan in a decent league.

Let's leave the lad alone. He's past his sell buy date as evidenced by the lack of interest from other clubs. His stock is not very high and he will end up going elsewhere probably on a lesser wage than he is currently on (soon to expire).

Dom, thanks for the 'few' really great and important goals and memories you gave us but you really need to move on and make new ones elsewhere...preferably not against us.

He'll definitely score against us. That's a given.

And therein lies the problem! That’s what Everton under Kenwright would almost certainly have done, and look where that got us!
No one should be getting a contract extension based on “loyalty”. Contracts and in particular any extensions should be based on performance, fitness, and value for money - loyalty shouldn’t be a consideration!

I don't think it's a contract on loyalty mate. It will be a deal that reflects his worth for the club.

She didn't call him a liar though, she just said that what he's reporting isn't true. Honestly, the people getting worked about her are showing a pretty troubling attitude.

I find it all a bit baffling. People seem to work themselves into a fury needlessly, then blame Calvert Lewin for doing it, then say we should let him go, then when it doesn't happen start the process again.

There's many reasons not to sign him up. I wouldn't sign him up in all honesty due to the injury record. But I'm honestly baffled at why people are so irate his wife has contradicted some kopite Journo.

With all the crazy that exists in the world right now, especially on social media, "Not true" seems entirely level-headed to me. Not sure how anyone can ready "crazy" into that Instagram story.
Why would she even bother?

These people are millionnaires. Giving oyxgen to the horrors and low-lives on social media is utterly self-defeating. I mean, fair play to her. But she'll achieve nothing given the lunacy that surrounds us all on social media.

I don't need my Mrs fighting my battles for me, especially in a very public setting where it could come across as ungrateful/deluded about my importance to the fanbase & the club, and where you have 10,000+ pairs of eyes dissecting what's been written.
Or maybe she’s defending him knowing what he’s been through cos she loves him?

You don't see every wife come on and defend their husband. Most leave it, recognise the role of media in football and just keep schtum.

Keanes wife hasn't. Youngs wife hasn't.

Its not a problem but it's not helpful.
