2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

I think Image is important to DCL. He wants to be seen as a starting striker. He wants to be paid as a starting striker too. He probably still believes he's a starting striker & i don't blame him for having the belief that he will come good again.
The reality is he has lost his position to Beto. We are actively looking to bring someone else in too & we can't afford to pay DCL that sort of wage for a third striker. If we agree a deal on a new striker to be ratified on July 1st then his days with us are over. You don't give a 3rd striker who doesn't score & gets injured a lot a 4-5 year contract on 1st striker money.

I think Moyes would like to keep him as a 3rd or maybe battling with Beto for next best so long as DCL swallows his pride & accepts he's not that guy anymore but i don't think Dom will. If Keane signs he will know he's 4th choice centre back & would have accepted that & probably the wage that comes with it. I just don't see DCL accepting his new status as bench warmer. I would imagine the latest contract offer to him is for far less than it was pre Moyes & he's struggling with that. I would also imagine his options are drying up & he's struggling with that too. What even are his options? Every club he's been seriously linked with he would be at best the back up striker & i would hazard a guess that they will offer him broadly the same or less a week in wages as we are currently offering too.

I'm coming from a place that he's defo off, mate. He's had a long time to sign, but the same concerns are still there, injury prone, still not a convincing finisher.

What would it cost in wages to keep him? Is he worth 100k a week for example?
If we re-sign him, is anyone realistically going to sign him for a fee next summer?
Should we linger on not getting a fee for him when he only cost us 1.5 mil?
Despite the fact he is clearly a better footballer than Beto, is Beto just a more effective striker?
Is it in a way, rewarding failure, by offering him a new deal? Is that fair to Beto who has shown himself to at least be a decent forward in this league?

For me, I would rather wish him good luck, and sign someone to give Beto some competition next season.

He's been at the club for the best part of a decade, he has been more than great value for money. At times, he looked like a real player, other times not so much. He has been very unfortunate with injuries, but I personally don't want a sick note. I honestly feel you could get just as effective a striker as DCL for less than 20 mil.
All fair points
It's not just the wages and only cost 1.5mil though because we'd have to replace him with a wage and a fee too even if only 20mil

I think he'd be a great rotation option and presume we are either upgrading or Beto starts the season but he probably doesn't want that so he probably is gone anyway.

It does help we didn't pay a lot for him though as well as having to pay to replace

I think there is a very good chance he ends up a better club than us. But I guarantee you it will be for significantly less wages than what he would have got last summer.
Free transfers usually get a higher wage though right?

I suppose we have to look at it like that

If he were not with us and available on a free would we take him and at how much?

If we were linked with him on a free would you not be interested, considering our need for squad building?

I don’t see how anyone can not prefer Beto who scores goals, keeps his head down and when interviewed only ever talks about working hard, improving himself and thanking the fans for their support.
Plus Beto isn't a narcissist and clearly loves club and responds to our fans support. I get the impression with DCL, he just turns up when he feels like it.

Can`t understand the effort being put into trying to keep a center forward who has a poor recent record in front of goal and a terrible record the last few years with injury, who if he wanted to extend his stay here he could have signed a new deal last summer and avoided being a free agent trying to find a PL club to sign for this summer.

Doesn't really seem like much effort is being put in, honestly.

If you take aside the ridiculous platform he decides to go on of 'High Performance Podcast' there are some interesting points to take from it.

Not one mention of being suicidal, if anything he made a mistake in the past with wording comments to throw in that narrative

'Crying on the floor on his birthday', you just know the second he said this Humphrey's eyes lit up ready for the sound bite and comments to advertise his podcast, Dom mentions it quickly then carry's on.....but is pushed back to this comment to try and 'analyze it' and 'open up'

Dom talks about Seamus being a great leader and inspirational, with the asking about 'cultural architect. "The biggest cultural architect at Everton is Seamus Coleman,"
I very much doubt Seamus himself would like to use those words at all. Dressing rooms are full of different personality's and from Dom's comments Seamus is all about example and how you carry yourself, not talking about how to be or how hard you work.....but just doing it.

This is were i think the Dom/fans thing has fallen short, Dom ahs had some brilliant moments with us, Palace, Liverpool etc. But talking about the Palace game, he not once mentions the fans, he talks about how hard he has worked and the struggles building up, and the courage he shown to get us through that moment etc etc. Not once does he mention the fans dragging the players through.......in a nutshell its about him. Seamus is the oppsoite, its never about him.

That's not a criticism of Dom, but more a criticism of people that critise him and have the right too. As Duncan Ferguson has said 'There are better players to have played fro Everton than me, but they just never got it'.

Seamus got it, Duncan got it....even people like Ashley Young got it. I don't think Dom ever did, its abit like being Batman, you cant do it for the adulation, because the minute you seek it, its not coming.
Personally I'm not a fan of this nonsense where a player isn't a local lad, nor supports Everton and tries to over do it claiming to be a blue. That's RS behaviour. All I want is players to give their best and appreciate fans support, players like Mykolenko, Gueye, Beto, Doucore, Alcaraz, Pickford , JOB, Jared, Tarkowskis and others do that. DCL isn't a bad person, he's simply an overrated striker, who was given too much responsibility after Lukaku left and our failure to replace Lukaku. He's nowhere near as good a Lukaku was.

He really could've benefitted from going to see the psychologist pickford went to see. A lot of his big gripes or worries are rather trivial and not something a top athlete should be all that concerned by

I'd take Keane over DCL. After all, he does score goals.

We'd probably all be lukewarm at best based on injury record and goals return in recent seasons.

Its not even like he's in the class of Saha, who I was worried about due to injuries etc. Quality player though and did alright.

Dyche
Post Dyche

The effort? Probably because he offers something to the team even if not guaranteed starter and we wouldn't have to buy a replacement.
He's also a known quantity in a summer rebuild that could get some signings that don't work out
Injured for a spell, on a 20 goal spell without a goal, scores, gets injured, that`s what we know about him.

If he does end up signing a new deal before the month’s out then it just proves he’s had no other decent offers and we’re his last resort. Everton should be taking the offer off the table and telling him to swivel, no more being treated like mugs.
I’m not sure he can swivel anymore mate due to his injuries
