2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

I wasn’t comparing the Chris Wood at Nottingham Forest with Hudson-Odoi, Gibbs-White and Elanga supplying him - I’m comparing the one absolutely slogging it out at Burnley season in, season out, with a squad full of grocks yet still managing to bag double figures more or less every season to DCL under Dyche and who got absolutely nowhere near 10 goals.

Dyche is a chronic manager, there’s no denying that. But there’s also no denying that DCL had the chances to score more goals under him and he must accept his share of the blame for his failure to do so.
I hear you
The point is whether under Dyche or for Forest Wood has a high conversion rate.
No suprise Burnley went down when he was sold

I’ve felt he needed to go for some time, I’m happy about this news. In all the interviews he gives I’ve always thought he gives off a really bad vibe. Maybe it’s just his natural demeanour but he always comes across like he’s unhappy to be at the club. Either way not a character I think we need around the other players. Let him go and sour the atmosphere somewhere else.

True

Are we allowed to say that we would’ve stayed up if we lost the Palace game now?
Glad we didn’t have to take that chance thanks to DCL.

Burnley ultimately lost, but if we had lost to palace, they would have just needed a point to stay up on the final day which then changes their approach to the game etc etc.

So he has my thanks for that. In the same vein people thank Doucoure for keeping us up.

He’s definitely a better player than many, including myself, gave him credit for when he was at Burnley.

As for Calvert-Lewin, I’ve never rated him but he did have certain qualities that made him very useful and why managers like Silva and Ancelotti where loathe to drop him. I believe those qualities are long, long gone as a result of his injuries and there is very little left that is worth persisting with by way of a new contract.

This is the right thing for all parties .
He has stalled here and needs a fresh start.

It does leave us bare though so I hope it lights another fire under the powers that be of the importance and urgent need to do good business in the weeks ahead.

It'll be interesting to see where he goes, it's genuinely quite difficult to work out what level of side will be interested I think. It's far from ideal to be losing a player like him on a free, especially on the back of a few others going the same way, but we couldn't go into another season with him and Beto as the options and Beto ended the season a lot better than he did which won't have helped his bargaining position. I wish him well and hope he gets himself back to form and fitness, but I hope we're able to attract better than him as a replacement.

I think he can be an impact sub at the likes of United or Newcastle or first choice ( if fit ) for a newly promoted team.

Lots to thank to Dom

BUT...his contract is up and you have to look at his output over the last 3 seasons, his injuries, and what he is asking for.

Same happened with Doucoure. Both on £100k a week? Has their output warrant the same over the last few years? Getting better? Age. Fitness. Are they willing to back down?

If not...then they part ways.
