2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

They've stalled cos we won't match his wage demands, the original contract offer was taken off the table, Lets see if anyone else in the pl offers the worst finisher a 100k p/w contract

Id like to keep him, even if im not his biggest fan mate.

But id also be happy if we have a redline and not go beyond it. Hes entitled to take his bat and ball home - but doesn't sound to me as if bridges are being burned on either side at the moment. Thats just my take.

If i was negotiatng this and he came and said thanks for the offer but im going to explore elsewhere - id be giving a week/two max deadline and moving on.

I don't want another situation like last summer were we left a contract on the table for him indefinitely.

Yeah just dont really see us agreeing a deal imo, reason i would want him to stay is the fear of having to bring in two strikers this window. I do think has ability but we havent seen enough of it, also honestly really unsure what clubs would be in for him maybe a promoted team like leeds psy him big for a one year deal. Or is it a backup at another team in england,

Id like to keep him mate simply, for the amount of work we have to do in the summer and its a face ache loosing him as you say mate, id also like to get money for him in 12-18 months.

But we can and will move on, i suspect our offer doesn't meet what he thinks his profile is and that's fine. I'm glad we have a redline and prepared to walk away rather then give a stupid deal and we're lumbered with an injury hit, ageing striker and sticking, whose value is diminishing - under a different regime we would have pushed the boat out for him.

He will get a deal elsewhere, but he will be cattle, an investment for someone, he will get piecemeal games and they can move on for money in 12-24 months.

100% certain his career will have peaked here, he will never have it as good as he has here, think hes in for a culture shock mate.

I hope he goes to Rangers just for the fun it would cause on here.

I wonder what their highest wage is there? Would he take an offer waaaaay lower than what we offered in order to go up there for a season, slot a lot of goals, play European football and then hope that generates enough interest from a big club in the PL to take a punt on him?

He has just as much chance of breaking down with an injury unfortunately, but will be interesting to see his next move.

Only just spotted that he underperformed his xG by more than any other player in the league this season. Last season he was pipped into 2nd place by Nunez across the park, but this season Dom has made that "most wasteful player in the league" title his own.
To add to this, since I've just gone down the rabbit hole with it...

Nunez was the most wasteful player in the league in 22/23, Calvert-Lewin was 2nd behind him

Nunez was the most wasteful player in the league in 23/24, Dom was again 2nd behind him

This season Dom overtook Nunez as the most wasteful player in the league (possibly because Nunez played half the number of minutes)

This is a player who, over a prolonged period, has been in the top/bottom two for worst finishers in the division.

I actually like the lad, but if goals are our problem and we don't have players currently able to give him tap-ins in the 6 yard box, I think we are better off parting ways, especially given the money he earns.
