I'm torn with DCl... If we want to progress we need a forward who we can rely on to regularly score goals. Since the start of the 21/22 season he's made 89 league appearances (<60% of the total number of league games in that time) and scored 17 goals... an average of a goal every 5 games or so. This is enough evidence for me that he is not what we need.

Having said that, during that time he's played up front for a team managed by the FSW, Duncan Ferguson, Frank Lampard and Sean Dyche... Prime Pele would have struggled to get goals for us during that time and we're still under PSR restrictions for the upcoming transfer window.

I won't bemoan us extending his contracted, provided it's not a bumper contract and we have another, better forward then our current crop to challenge for the No.9 place.
You sound like one of his hamstrings.

"He'd be a free signing though...yada yada yada".

Yeah, free of goals too.

Anyone making a case for his retention hates Everton.

Let's not be in a rush to throw wages and a new contract at somebody who looks to me like he might be turning into a serial sicknote...a sicknote that...however good he was previously...ran his contract down, for his own reasons, all by himself.
Yet some make him out to be a victim?

While I agree with most of your post the part in bold I disagree with. This is a myth that is always touted about when it comes to DCL. "Player x couldn't score in this team, etc" However, a player with any real threat to their game, Pele (mentioned here), would find ways to score loads of goals purely down to their skill and ability. Dom does not have the skill or ability needed and hardly scores when the ball is on a plate for him. When he gets service he fluffs his chances, time to turn the page.

Yeah I agree, DCl isn't the kind of player to create a goal scoring opportunity for himself. Ancelotti understood this, hence that one standout goal scoring season from him: we played to his strengths. None of the following managers had the players/ability/tactical nouse to replicate this.

My general point was more the fact we've been crap over recent years and struggled to score goals at all.

The problem is, With Broja going back and Chermiti needing a loan and the club were looking to sell Beto in January, means we need 2 strikers and probably a 3rd to cover upfront and wide. That’s a lot do on top of everything else, if re-signing him gives us more money to look at other positions, then I don’t have an issue.
I’d rather keep DCL than doucoure or re-loaning Harrison. Them things could still happen, but it may help getting better quality in the 10 and RW roles

Well that answers the question of what Dave Prentice is still getting paid for.

Doesn't say anything about himself not being good enough for the last four seasons but is now massively back on the blue bandwagon after his agent didn't get any interest in him.
