The only one I thought definitely needed to go was Koeman. The conditions he operated in he had no excuse to not have success. He sold Lukaku Barkley Stones and had funds from Moshiri and had a team that looked like they couldn’t put a pass together.

Silva Allardyce and Benitez were not in the same situations and probably wouldn’t have taken us down but at the times the players created an environment of utter despair and terrible results so it’s not surprising that they were all fired. Until we get rid of that culture though of Moshiri just pulling the trigger when things get bad, the players will always have that option available to them. As soon as it gets a bit difficult for them, they know that a few losses in a row and Moshiri’s trigger finger will be twitching and the fan base will back him. We should have stuck with Silva and got rid of Keane Coleman Davies Siggurdson instead but I can see why it’s easier to replace the manager.

Let’s hope number 6 doesn’t have the same issues as the five before.

Genuinely think Benitez was taking us down, Silva could have done. Allardyce wouldn't have. His sacking was harsh, and I regret calling for his head.

Any of them could have. That’s not in doubt. But what annoys me is the conditions at the club make a bad patch under any manager a relegation whirlwind that consumes everything.

Why didn’t we get Silva a CB to replace Zouma? Why couldn’t we get him a proper right back? He clearly didn’t want Iwobi. Why was our medical department a complete joke and couldn’t keep any midfielders fit all season? So basically messrs Keane Coleman Davies Siggurdson saw him under the bus and a few losses became many.

Ancelotti was going the same way. We were getting worse and worse, injuries were again decimating the squad and we gave him Josh King on loan even though he blatantly didn’t want him. By the end again a similar collection of players were making error after error every game undermining the season.

Then Benitez. Of course he made tactical errors, but a bit of backing in the summer, better luck with injuries, and the usual motley crew of players not downing tools and he’d probably still be here in mid table (for better or worse)

The same pattern keeps happening though. We undermine managers with poor recruitment, their best players get injured and stay injured, then the same B team clowns enter the fray and make error after error until one loss had turned into many and the pressure is so great a manager gets fired.

Sort the recruitment, sort the injury prevention and recovery, and get rid of this rotting core of players. Just rotating the manager without tackling those three core issues will see us just repeating history.

Excellent post

Brands was trying to, Silva was dead set on Zouma long after it was clear Chelsea were not letting him go, we were about to get Tomori as a back up offer from them then Luiz decided he wanted to leave for Arsenal right on deadline day

I mean there are structural issues. DOFs not being able to do their job, but also not really fitting the culture we have at the club. Some poor recruitment, and certainly in the case of Benitez, some pretty horrendous tactical decisions.

Ancelotti would have turned it around with ore season. We had the same pattern the season before, and he found solutions. The problem is, Ancelotti is a bona fide world class manager. A great man manager, tactician etc. We cant always rely on that.

If Lampard can get through to the summer, and Moshiri allows the club to work with him for what he needs, we have a chance.

As for the players, hard to say its anything other than Brands not really doing his job well enough. I am not sure he ever really got the culture of the place. For me, you should have 10 names on a list, and you work through them. Do you think the scouting was deep enough? I'm not sure.

What do you think caused us not to recruit well at times?

Picking the wrong profile of player.

Premier league experience - Keane, Delph, Siggurdson, Schendierlin, Bolasie, Walcott Doucoure Iwobi

CL experience - Tosun Gomes Digne Mina James Bernard Allan Kean

I’m not saying all of these are bad players, but it seems we throw big fees at these players based on them having one of these labels rather than thinking whether it’s a player that fits into the way the club is playing, wants to be here, has the desire to play for the club, fits the clubs business model etc.

‘Oh they’re from Barcelona they must be good’

Whereas some of our rivals have been buying far better players who are far more motivated such as Soucek Coufal Maddison Barnes Tielemans Jimenez etc.

The switch away from younger, hungrier players seems to have been a mistake.

Its difficult, like Lukaku, Peinaar, Arteta etc are all examples of players who came from top teams and did very well here. Maybe more diligence needed in recruitment on personality?

Hard not to put some blame on DOFs.

I think as well, we have really struggled with managerial turnaround. If Carlo had stayed, we would probably be top half. It allows you to plan. Hopefully Lampard can be here a while, and put a focus on players who have that determination.

I don't know and I also don't understand the culture thing. Culture always evolves so what is it they don't or do 'get'?
