If we were well ran and mid table selling him for 60 million would be good business. I love the kid but his muscle injuries are a concern. He's probably the best aerial threat in football when fit and a pure poacher. Unfortunately we aren't well ran and he alone could be the difference in us staying up. We simply cannot buckle here.
Getting hard to ignore just how many muscle injuries he's racking up this early in his career. Ironically may make it easier to keep hold of him as I'm not sure any team will be able to reliably build a team around him. Guess we will find out more in the presser tomorrow

Some of the comments in here are appalling and as a teacher, I have to speak about a small minority of people who can’t accept that people are different. Ten year olds can’t understand why.

Any homophobic/sexist or transphobic comments on here should get bans in my view.

The switch away from younger, hungrier players seems to have been a mistake.

Its difficult, like Lukaku, Peinaar, Arteta etc are all examples of players who came from top teams and did very well here. Maybe more diligence needed in recruitment on personality?

Hard not to put some blame on DOFs.

I think as well, we have really struggled with managerial turnaround. If Carlo had stayed, we would probably be top half. It allows you to plan. Hopefully Lampard can be here a while, and put a focus on players who have that determination.
Beg to differ mate, Pienaar came from Dortmund who weren't the Dortmund we know now but who'd been a mid table German side, He'd left Ajax years earlier and he hardly played for Dortmund, Arteta came via Glasgow and Soceidad, yeah he'd been an academy player at Barca but never played for the proper team before leaving at 19/20. Lukaku is the only one who came to us via atop team, both the others had already had that move on from their parent club 3-4 years prior

Which would be relevant if the protests had started after the bad run. They didn’t, the knives were out after a few losses. Fans looking for a silver bullet. As I said, let’s hope they are more patient in backing Lampard and aren’t whingeing as soon as he loses a game or two.
Which is rather more validation of the ridiculous appointment by Moshiri in the first place, is it not?

Was always gonna end up that way but lets hope he has learnt, I think not with him but we have to hope.

I mean there are structural issues. DOFs not being able to do their job, but also not really fitting the culture we have at the club. Some poor recruitment, and certainly in the case of Benitez, some pretty horrendous tactical decisions.

Ancelotti would have turned it around with ore season. We had the same pattern the season before, and he found solutions. The problem is, Ancelotti is a bona fide world class manager. A great man manager, tactician etc. We cant always rely on that.

If Lampard can get through to the summer, and Moshiri allows the club to work with him for what he needs, we have a chance.

As for the players, hard to say its anything other than Brands not really doing his job well enough. I am not sure he ever really got the culture of the place. For me, you should have 10 names on a list, and you work through them. Do you think the scouting was deep enough? I'm not sure.

What do you think caused us not to recruit well at times?
Carlo’s reputation is as a manager for superstars and not so much for working with developing talent. His time here bears that out.

Lampard had the exact opposite profile at Chelsea - great for bringing along Mount, James etc but lost the old guard.

Of the two approaches given our player pool Lampard is the better fit. Would much rather develop Dobbin Brathwaite Owyango Simms Mykolenko etc than cater to older players

I back there current manager of the club until they are no longer suitable for the role. Sadly some people think that’s after half a season, other people think it’s after two losses in a row. Hopefully Lampard gets a bit more patience from the more hysterical parts of this forum.
I don't get this half a season stuff. The length of time a manager has been in charge is irrelevant when you pick up only 6 points out of a possible 39, that is sack the manager territory whether you've been in charge 6 months or six years. No manager in the country in any league will get away with that kind of run. I was prepared to give Benitez a chance at the start despite his past history but this was a problem for a lot of supporters, whereas lampard comes from a totally different position and unless we go on another run of 6 out of 39 there is no way the fans will be on his back like they were with Benitez.

Picking the wrong profile of player.

Premier league experience - Keane, Delph, Siggurdson, Schendierlin, Bolasie, Walcott Doucoure Iwobi

CL experience - Tosun Gomes Digne Mina James Bernard Allan Kean

I’m not saying all of these are bad players, but it seems we throw big fees at these players based on them having one of these labels rather than thinking whether it’s a player that fits into the way the club is playing, wants to be here, has the desire to play for the club, fits the clubs business model etc.

‘Oh they’re from Barcelona they must be good’

Whereas some of our rivals have been buying far better players who are far more motivated such as Soucek Coufal Maddison Barnes Tielemans Jimenez etc.

Looking at the list what I'd say is recruitment has had some major flaws for a long time.

Not as simple as Prem league experience or CL experience, which both have merits too, but rather overlooking glaring flaws on some.

Delph, Walcott and James where all three sicknote players, but we paid good fees and gsve them at least parity or wage increases to get them here, made no sense, they where let go of their clubs at the age of 28+ for good reasons.

Bernard was a stupid signing, we paid massive wages for a player who didn't have that many offers even on a free due to doubts about his physicality to handle any top league.

Bolasie and Iwobi, Keane all bought for a mixture of reasons, to add pace flair etc, but all three bought based on highlights of their best moments rather than what they did consistently (Keane being so young can kinda have an exception made over him) but none of them strike you as particularly focused or even serious about the game at times.
We also massively overpayed on all three - We bought as if both Iwobi and bollasie where in massive demand rather than both being regarded as easily surplus at their teams. And wages we then payed according to that too.

Digne, Dacoure, Allan and Mina where all great buys, but for mina we payed based on his world cup not his form for Barca, Allan we payed over the odds as Carlo really wanted him.

Keane, Iceland and Schnedercrab all three bought as a 'buy a lower teams best player' as well we bought Schneider based on his form for saints and stupidly payed united like the three seasons he failed there hadn't existed, the other two we payed a ridiculous premium for (same as Newcastle are doing now)

Gomesl I'll give a pass too, the lad looked great value until he was crippled and never close to the same player since.

Tosun if anything the worst buy of the entire lot, as he had no upside in terms of development (Iwobi, Kean etc) had never shown he was anything more than a decent player in a poor league with huge limitations and yet we paid for him like he was a hot property across Europe.

He wasn't suitable for the role before he even walked through the door.

It's mad how some people could not see that.

People complain about rushing players back so soon after an injury, this maybe part of his rehabilitation to ease him back into form.

Nothing worse than someone acting the superstar...except someone acting the superstar who isn't remotely superstar in their ability.

Leaving aside the dubious injury record this season, he wants off to another club.

My attitiude now is "fine...I think once we get a good fee for him in the summer we can recycle that and get in another forward more reliable as a goal scorer and some other team has him as their problem."

His scoring record for Everton

2020/21----16
2019/20----13
2018/19----6
2017/18----4
2016/17----1

...not exactly irreplacable is he?
