2021/22 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

I agree that easing him in would have been better but he’s been back in training since Christmas so it shouldn’t be that much of an issue now. Players come back straight into the side after injury at all clubs, for some reason when we do it everyone thinks it’s gross negligence.
Since Christmas though he’s had the abductor strain and a calf strain which set him back

Yeah I get that but you can’t ease him back after each one can you? Players don’t miss 5 days training and then need a couple of weeks on the bench to ease back in. I’m not saying he should be at peak fitness but the last couple of games he’s been really really poor and I’m not sure we can just give him a free pass because he’s had a couple of niggles.

The England striker, who missed four months of the 2021/22 season with toe and quadriceps problems, only made a return in January.

However, he hasn’t been able to recapture his old form and has fallen victim to yet another injury, which should frustrate Frank Lampard.

The Toffees boss confirmed last month that Calvert-Lewin picked up an adductor injury and that he could be out for 10 days.

He’s missed the odd week since being back in full training around 20th December.

Before Xmas, Benitez said he’d be back to full match fitness and sharpness in ‘2 or 3 weeks’.
He's missed several games and several full training sessions over the last three months.

So he hasn't been in full training for three months at all.

There was a brief moment last season when the more hyperbolic section of our fanbase had DCL in a bit of a contest with Harry Kane for the England number 9 shirt. While few were claiming he was superior, there was definitely a sense among some that DCL was becoming something of a rival for the national team place. Well, we were treated to a demonstration of the vast gulf in class between the two last night.

The chasm is yawning and ever growing.

Let's be honest on him, apart from one strong season he's done little else. And as far as his goal scoring even that is limited in the way in which he gets his goals, he plays a very specific game hence why when carlo set up to play his style he scored. Give him time to think or ask him to score outside the box and he's lost.

Sorry for me he isn't all that, he doesn't even come close to the intelligence and movement of kane and isn't as deadly as say lukaku was for us.

The major issue in selling him though is trusting everton to invest the money we get in good replacements and making the team stronger, that I'm afraid is likely asking to much.
I hope this is when Lampard can use his influence with Chelsea and nab a few promising youngsters. We've blown our chance buying permanent players. 500m just doesn't fall out of trees. Shrewd loan moves for promising talent and a reboot of the "sleeping giant" phrase.

Only problem is, reboots are usually worse than the original attempt. If that's the case, I look forward to playing Boreham Wood in the league within the next decade.

Bloody Everton!

We need to get shut. The problem is that the way he is performing, no one is going to pay big bucks. His long lay-off and particularly his head being turned by the modelling means that he is light years from being the player he could be. Also, with the talk about an England career he thinks he is far better than he is and he certainly thinks he is too good for Everton.

He’s a statue, doesn’t get involved enough in the game. And can’t compete physically in the prem. tap in/penalty merchant. Front 3 should be Richarlison-rondon-gray. Gordon gets full marks for effort but the end product is still a work in progress. Better served off the bench. Richarlison can’t play a number 9 role needs Rondon to play off.

I think you are right. I can see DCL being sold in the summer and Frank moving in for the likes of Broja (who he gave his debut at Chelski), if not Broja then someone who Frank wants as a striker in the way he wants a team set up. No grumbles from me if it happens.

Rondon? Nice one.
