Dominic Calvert-Lewin watch

Oh look it's gone exactly the way we all thought it would.

Shockingly, it turns out teams are not falling over themselves to waste over 100k a week on a fella who hardly scores and can't stay fit.

He might still get that big move to fill a squad spot somewhere but he's not going to be the main man, getting over 100k and starting every week at any team better than us. Anyone who claimed that was insane as we can clearly see.

I don't wish him I'll but I take great satisfaction in being correct about how this would play out after years of people exaggerating his ability.

They changed it so players out of contact get paid for a month after release. Unless they've signed elsewhere. Probably explains why so many free agents haven't moved yet.

It doesn't explain anything at all.

If he signed for less elsewhere he'd be paid the difference.

@SJB covered it here

Still on the payroll at Everton till the end of July so he and Docoure won't be in any rush to sign elsewhere.

Fact of the matter is he is nobody's first choice for the wages he's demanding or he'd be signed now.

How much do you wanna bet Jake?

The list of clubs not better than us is very short.
There's plenty of clubs not better than us, there's none that will pay him over 100k a week though.

I was told he would be signed up within two weeks of his contract ending. He's available, he's free. Why has nobody signed him?

Either nobody is prioritizing him or he's asking too much.

Its not like anyone has to pay a fee to us so what's the hold up for all of these clubs desperate to have him?

Don't need Occam's razor for this one.

This provides an additional layer of financial protection and perhaps more leeway to relax and enjoy his summer break, especially after getting married.

However, with the season not too far away, I suspect he'd be wanting to get some pre-season under his belt, both fitness and minutes playing football.

The longer he doesn't get himself into a team, the less chance he'll be making a starting XI at least from the outset.

Whatever happens, it doesn`t appear that he`s going to be first choice for anyone in the Premier League, as he`d already be at a club by now and back in training.

He`s kind of in no mans land at the moment - wage demands too high for anyone in the Championship and to be a squad member for anyone in the Premier League, which leaves somewhere abroad like Turkey or maybe Saudi.

One things for sure, the longer he goes without a club, the more his bargaining position weakens.

You only have to look at the players without clubs list, to see that there`s a lot of very good players in the exact same position too.

How much financial protection does a player need after 8 years with a PL club, with a good few years being a high earner?

Well that's true, however this is for all player contracts so it isn't Dom or Doucouré, exclusively.

I cannot see Dom living in either of these countries, for a number of reasons; his focus will be remaining here or playing on the continent.

But as you said, unless he drops his wage demands, his options will narrow. We offered him a reasonable wage (reduced fairly), and he said no.

Now he's got to hope he can match that, at a minimum.

It will be his horrific injury record more than anything which of course leads to teams not prioritizing him or being willing to pay him decent money.
