Does Moyes' reign look better with hindsight given the dismal performances of his successors?

Genuinely cannot believe people are comparing Martinez's reign to Koeman and Allardyce's
Martinez inherited a good team from Moyes and improved upon it in terms of attack. Koeman inherited a dismal team from Martinez and finished decently. It could be argued that Koeman's better than Martinez. I think they're equally crap.

He did a lot of good no doubt about it, if he was more positive we would of played champions league football on a couple of occasions.
He's so dour he would of only finished 5th no matter who he signed.
Promised 40 points the gargoyle did but did get us champions league with his dour 1-0 victories. Better than promising us champions league but delivering two 11th place finishes i suppose. 72 points.... Hah hah haha

Here's a review of your last 6 months, lets not pretend you actually remember any football games

That’s disgraceful, I’m reporting this, only two of them were me.....

well you are right we did finish higher that season, we got 61 points and finished on -1 GD, the reason we finished 4th this season was because the league itself was very poor, possibly the lowest ever points tally for a 4th place finish?

under bobby we got 72 points and +22 goal difference, a far better season, just the league was a lot stronger
The league was so poor Liverpool managed to win the European Cup even though they finished outside the top 4....

Moyes wasn't perfect but how did we underachieve under him? I see over achievement when taking everything to account like where we were before he came in, the overall consistency of finishes we achieved under him and where we are now. People down play the resources aspect too, which were extremely limited. Especially in comparison to what the managers since have had.

Have you used the wrong number there with final 6 seasons? In his final 6 seasons we finished 5th, 5th, 8th, 7th, 7th, 6th.

The 5th in 2008 was arguably our most well rounded in the Premier League era with us getting to the Semi Final of the League Cup and the last 16 of the UEFA Cup, going out unfortunately to Fiorentina.

In 2009, we came 5th and got to the FA Cup Final.

I think Evertonians are deluding themselves about where we are as a club in the Premier League era too. What Moyes achieved there is the level we're aiming to get back to in the next few seasons. We all hope we can push on, but the likelihood is that even achieving those kind of seasons again is going to be a huge challenge.

You’re misunderstanding me first. I was referring to Billy Bingham. Who will be remembered for no trophies or success.

I want that to happen for us now, to look back at Moyes campaign with dissatisfaction towards the end. He should have went after the semi.

He gave in. It went stagnant and the crowd showed it withbgetting sub 30,000 gates for the first time in 13-14 years.

I not deluded. I just believe Moyes tenure is overhyped. He did amazing. Better than any other manager (ranieri aside) has ever done in the premier league! No one should ever look down on that.

But the negatives in th end far outweighed the positives.

The league now is ALOT more competitive and Moyes shows with United, Sunderland and West Ham. He’d not have done the job he did now, as he did 17 years ago!

The effort he displayed after the semi loss was poor. He ran his contract down, screwednus over and disrespected us immensely. He played a really clever game and probably had the safest job in world football when he was playing us down as “knifes to a gunfight”, and making excuses.

The fact is one cup final in 13 years is not worth of “celebration”. Nearly beating Fiorentina... that’s not merit worthy either.

Thanks for getting us close to where we need to be. But no thanks to no wins against the big teams, no trophies, and disrespecting us when he palmed us off for no compensation, trying to unsettle Baines and intimately acting classless.

He did get wins against the big teams, just few away from home. But then almost no one gets wins away at the big sides - that is why they are big sides! Look at Mourinho’s home record, for example.

Looking back at it now .....Moyes was really just Gordon Lee 2.0 ! Decent record ....close but no cigar.
Did well to get us out of trouble early / stabilized a good position on a limited budget. Good but not great. Definitely lost a lot of my good will after he went to Utd and tried to act like a big shot.

Not sure why we spend so much time talking about our past managers ....Moyes / Martinez / Koeman / Allardyce ..... all meh ! Hope Silva + Brands can move us forward / get us into Top 6 and win us a Cup ...soon.
