Distin new year contract

Excellent player for us in the main, albeit with a few slips here and there. At his age it's worth commenting on how well he's adapted to the change in play under Martinez.

Happy to have him.

Easy to see that yesterday, with Jags looking to hoof every time Bunny Saurez took a run at him.

I have no problems with Distin signing for another year. He's still earning his place and a year is sensible. If he'd signed for 2 or 3 years I could understand people getting nervous but he's looked after himself and isn't going to lose it overnight. Both sides can review the situation in 12 months or so.

Distin is a f*cking boss, and will continue to be forever. It will be another year or so before I'm ready to rely on stones and Duffy is sadly drifting out of the picture. No arguments here.

Good lid to have about, likes his milk ice cold, we need to evolve from the jags distin combo, but I'm sure we will and having him as an option should be a good thing for another season. A top class pacy footballing centre halve is a must in the summer still, hard to find but if we can add and groom stones as well while jags has more than a few years left, that will be that area boxed off nicely

Its obvious we need to replace him with someone younger, but do you think Roberto doesn't know that too? He allows us to make do for now, plus his experience and attitude is key for the likes of John Stones. Having someone like Distin around can help the younger players.

The very epitome of a senior professional

Distin told evertonfc.com: “I’m at a point in my career where it is good to pass on my experience and if some of the lads are receptive and want to listen, then why not?

“I’ve always been like that and it’s not because anyone has asked me. I try to help them and the best way to do that is not to make their lives difficult.

“We have a great example in John Stones, who is an amazing player.

“I remember when I got injured and he played his first game [at Stoke]. I told him to make sure that I wasn’t getting back into this team and that it’s his job to keep me out of the squad.

“That’s football and I try to pass on a bit of my experience. Football is about challenges and competition.”
