Dissent against Moyes, when?

I think many on here know my stance on the manager and I'll say that I do not intend for this thread to become (another) forum for myself or others to write the guy off.

However, over the past 2 seasons or so i've begun to see dissent voiced against Moyes with much more frequency then I ever remember, either at the match or through social media such as this & the obvious others.

After a Boxing Day crashing out to Man Utd in 2001 I basically refused to go to the match again until the 2006/7 season and I didn't join up on this forum until 2 years ago...so what I am asking (out of pure interest) is this.

When did you first see any opposition to Moyes? Either through these mediums or at the game itself? Does it go back as far as 2003/4 perhaps or what? Did people see crashing out of Europe and finishing 11th as a reason to have a pop or what?

The first real time I saw it (by large groups in the ground) was after the 0-2 derby where Mascherano's wild effort went crashing in via a large deflection off faked injuries best mate Joseph Yobo, since then it's slowly but surely gathered pace...so much so where places like this is littered with posts against the man himself.

I'm just interested in what you've seen is all, having a go against Moyes is still seen as a taboo topic amongst many Evertonians I know and yet it's still within right...it'll be interesting to find any potential origins, share your stories here.

Having a go at Moyes taboo?

It seems defending him is what is taboo these days. Glory-hunters always ask me why Everton fans hate Moyes so much at the moment.

I spoke to a Man U fan last week who would love Moyes to be their next manager. I was surprised at how desperate he was for it to happen.

But I digress....

I actually quite like the way that even though every member of the press praise Moyes as if he is infalliable, we the people who watch him week in week out are not afraid to call him on his mistakes and failings. The guy has done a cracking job without question, but he still has faults, he still makes mistakes and we are realisitic to call that and challenge it. I don't know many at all who 'hate him', I know plenty who get frustrated with him, maybe sometimes harshly but that is only human. He is too cautious sometimes and he does retreat at the most ridiculous times (semi final being the most obvious examples - but throughout his time here there have been plenty of other examples, I remember a City home game and a Spurs home game, both last minute defensive retreats costing us games, which highlighted this). I believe our supporters actually keep him on his toes, we do let him know when we aren't happy, nad that is a healthy relationship.

If we all followed blindly and praised him as the next messiah even though he has obvious failings and refused to criticise him and acknowledge those failings, well, there is another band of supporters who do that, and it is frankly cringeworthy and is actually an extremely unhealthy relationship which inevitably leads to disaster...say no more.

I've always defended Moyes, I dread to think where we'd be if Megson had took over from him in 2002. I do know he's made a few errors but then show me a manager who hasn't . His pro's far outweigh his cons. The only time I really lost faith in him was the Spurs game at GP when he brought Tony Hibbo on instead of Vaughany when it was 1-1 and we lost the game. He had settled for a point when Jol went for the win. I've never heard such a bad reaction from the crowd towards DM as that night .
Having said that , with the restrictions placed on him over the years I very much doubt that anyone would have maintained the team as well as he has done and engineered such a fantastic team spirit , the envy of most Prem teams .

getting bummed by bucharest 5-1 was when i started to really doubt him tactically, i still backed him for a good while after that, and even though its early days this season, last couple of seasons have been different though, i still hold out a little hope that he will prove me wrong yet

First i remember is the frustration with his subs in a spurs game where we were losing in 03-04 i think..

Show me a football manager who doesn't get slated after a disappointing result? Even the likes of Wenger get it.

My opinion on Moyes has very much oscillated over the years depending on his performance, isn't that the way its supposed to be?

His worst performance came less than a year ago, with him shitting out and totally surrendering to the shite at Anfield this year. It was disgusting, bordering on gross misconduct IMO and very much a sackable offence.

The real vociferous anti Moyes comments probably started as soon as we got into Europe as that is when our expectations really shot up (due to Moyes though I may add) and his mistakes were being seen at a higher level than we have seen, for some that was for a long time and for others (like me) it was the first time we had that level of expectation, and therefore that level of critique when things did not quite go our way.

It's not taboo at all, it's just that the vast majority of Evertonians can't believe some of the ****e that's thrown in Moyes direction, given the great job that they consider he's done. They therefore defend the man vociferously.

Creating a thread asking for people to 'reminisce' about when they've had a pop at the man, when we're in the midst of our best start to a season for years & playing some great football to boot, tells me all I need to know about your agenda.Tragic lad.

Agreed. It's a terrible thread this.

Moyes is great, stating the obvious, but nobody should be exempt from criticism.

My first criticism of Moyes was when we got beat 7-0 by Arsenal the same week that we finished 4th! I was fuming that night!
