Digne> baines at peak

Probably bad timing after his suspect defending yesterday for both goals. He's very good, and his delivery is beginning to look as good Baines' was during the peak years.

I don't really see the point in making this type of comparison. Baines was truly tremendous for us and I wouldn't have swapped him for anybody else when he was in his prime. Digne is currently in his prime and I wouldn't swap him for anybody else. Brands deserves so much credit for getting Baines' replacement spot on and hopefully Digne will be at Everton for a similar length of time that Baines was.

No - there was a period of a year or two when I genuinely wouldn't have swapped Baines for anyone in the world

Digne is a remarkably similar type of player, but I don't think he's at the level Baines once reached (yet).

Would imagine by the end of this season we will have United, Spurs, Chelsea, PSG etc all trying to lure him away. He's been an outstanding signing.

As mentioned, we have been blessed at Left back in the prem era.

Hinchcliffe was outstanding and the finest corner taker I have seen.
Lescott was an absolute monster for 18 months in the position until he went central to make room for Baines.
Baines was the best in his position for many years.
Digne has continued in the same vein.

I just wish we could replicate this level of quality consistently in other positions in the team.

He is nowhere near peak Baines.

He might never be.

But that is no criticism of the lid.....Baines was exceptional for us over a long period of time.

And let’s not get carried away about Digne just yet.

He is good....but Paddy Van Den Hauwe was a better defender.

And Andy Hunchliffe was every bit as good a crosser of the ball.

If only we had someone of his level also playing on the right.

I like Seamus.. but another Digne in his position?? wet dreams there.

Baines was a far better defender
I wouldn’t say he was a far better defender , he cost us plenty of goals over the years. He was similar to digne, in that he was far stronger going forward.

And obviously digne. Let himself down defensively yesterday, though you would expect that winger who so fast was going to get the better of him a few times over 90mins. The 1st goal should have been cleared by Coleman. The 2nd goal he switched off.
