did city weaken or strenghten us this summer?

it's a question i've been giving some thought to.

at first it seems obvious we were weakened as we lost an england international to a direct rival.

however, for shouting and screaming it seems we did not have much money in the transfer pot.

so the 24 million we raked in did city shoot themselves in the foot giving a direct rival such freedom in the transfer market?

who knows there might be another 10 million to spend in january?

i'm inclined to think the transfer has actually strengthened everton.

The money helped us to strengthen in other areas, so on that basis we are stronger. However if our new signings bomb , we will be no better. To me Jags was the better defender and ironically it was a blessing he was injured when he was , because I think city would have gone for him instead.
Definately stronger , but time will tell

Time will tell, but I feel the club let us down with signings this year.
I'm beginning to not trust anything the club tells us these days.

definitely a bonus arteta and jags were injured this summer. if city would have bought either of those for the same money it would have been a disaster for us.

time will tell of course as it depends on the two new guys to the league and how they handle it.

they might have given us that little push we needed..

Everyone talks about Jags and Arteta , but to be honest, we have shown that we can get by without Arteta in the team, and Jags has had one good season, or should I say 3 quarters, and needs to prove himself over a longer period of time before he deserves such acclaim.

Would have strengthened us definitely if we'd actually spent some money on a centre mid. It will end up strengthening us tho, cos it was good business.

After watching his performance at the weekend, I certainly don't think we've lost £20M+ worth of talent.... he's never been capable of attacking a cross (I could forgive if it was just the likes of Drogba, but he's even let bloody Wright-Phillips out jump him, for God's sake), and has never looked composed on the ball.

I certainly believe we're better equipped now than we were at the start of the Summer - all for zero nett outlay too, bargain.

I think priorities changed big time. From strengthing our right with a winger and a right back or at least a central midfielder, to sorting out the defence.

It went from trying to bag a bargin, or at least get the 1 expensive player (ala Defour rejection), to losing a player then being able to buy a few more freely. It was a bit late though, so some players we wanted to get in were gone so we had smash and grab a few players of quality that can cover a few positions.

Distin was a good buy and was probably a Lescott replacement. Could've bought him regardless IMO.

Heitinga. Is a weird one. I think Moyesy could have struck gold with this. But where is he gonna play? Right back, centre back, defensive midfield?

Billy. A good buy as we need a winger badly. But he's left sided...he can play across the midfield and left back...

So I dunno. Banega would've been quality on a loan as we need that creative midfielder till Arteta gets back. But Ossie, Billy and Pienaar could have a go there...

I do think we've a stronger defence than we ever had on paper. 4 centre halves who wouldnt look out of place in any team and can play a number of positions across the back is definately a strength.

But 1 midfielder...I think we'll have to wait and see.

lost an international center back. but gained an international right back which is a big plus cos hibbert wont play as much hopefully.

heitinger has played around 50 times for his country and scored 6 goals. and is younger.

Time will tell, but I think the shrewd jock might have played another blinder with this one.

Thats a big IF both the Russian and Heitinga turn out, if so then well played Everton.

I've faith Heitinga will be a monster.

The Russki I'm excited about. Could give us that width, bit of flair and a little pace we dont have.
