“taking one for the team” is a term I am coming to despise.

And IMO should be treated in the same way as a “professional foul” on a man through on goal is....with a red card.

Because “taking one for the team” is about doing the exact same thing, only a bit further up the pitch.
 
'Park the bus'.
Whoever came up with this is 100% responsible for pundits, fans, journalists and commentators using this tiresome phrase in the belief that it makes them sound more knowledgeable about the game.
Stop it now!
 
'He's been clever there', which usually means a player has apparently been shot by a sniper to win a free kick.
Often used by morons like Danny Murphy and Spit the Dog.
Funnily enough I've never heard Pat Nevin say it. Is that due to his never having played for the cult I wonder?
