But if the pressure of a derby causes Distin, an experienced professional, to act like he has as much spine as a jellyfish why would you think Ty is going to be any better, especially since he hasn't played a minute in the premier league before?

It is like handing someone who has just passed their driving test the keys to an F1 car and asking them to drive in the Monaco GP.

A lot of young drivers here think they can do exactly that judging by the way they behave behind the wheel.

Id rather watch a youngster make mistakes than Distin, I've seen enough of that.

If coleman doesnt make it, id rather see browning at RB, hes probably best option defensively after coleman there and stones can stay in the center

What about oviado, i know his prefered position is LB but i think he looks comfortable with his right foot, and could do a job.

Plus I've heard browning is like a rock, much rather have that than sterling doing ballerina around Hibbert, of course it's a risk given its his first game but he's a die hard blue so not too worried

Villa and WHam attributed some of their success due to the fact that they man marked Gerrard out of the game effectively stopping much in the way of accurately weighted balls over the top for strikers to run onto, (which would tear our defence apart right now). Do you think Roberto will take a note of that and put someone on him? If so who? I think Nais would be perfect for that. Aggressive and snidey.

So you'd be against an 18 year old making his competitive debut against Inter at the San Siro? IMO, kids can very often do well in this kind of situation. Surprisingly nerveless because they don't have the history of people like Jags and Distin.

Depends on the kid, as you say some can be nerveless and might even consider it for a home derby if we had injury problems.

But Anfield is like kryptonite to our players, even those who you would think would be immune. Barry has over 500 appearances to his name including Manchester derbys and World Cups - his worst game in an Everton shirt by far was last year at Anfield.

Pienaar has a tendency to go missing in this fixture though. It would be Mirallas in front of Baines, and Sterling will play centrally, Baines doesn't need any more protection than Barry. If anything, I would advocate playing 433, to cramp up the middle, and restrict the space Sterling has to play in. I would play
Howard
Coleman Stones Jagielka Baines
McCarthy Gibson Barry
McGeady Lukaku Mirallas

or

Howard
Coleman Stones Jagielka Baines
McCarthy Barry
McGeady Naismith Mirallas
Lukaku
I share your thinking, but would go with different personnel.

Howard
Coleman _ Stones _ Distin _ Baines (c)
McCarthy _ Barry _ Besic
Lukaku _ Naismith _ Mirallas
Lukaku and Mirallas will match up well against most fullbacks in the prem, and both of them are dangerous as fook when they cut in to shoot. Naismith to buzz back and forth between Gerrard and their CBs, annoying the hell out of them. Besic and McCarthy to provide a bit of thrust from midfield. Gonna get negged for this I suspect, but I'll say it anyway: Jags has made more howlers and been at fault for more goals than Distin this season. In addition, Stones and Distin looked our best CB pair last year. So Distin gets the nod over Jags. Baines gets the armband.

Bench: Robles, Jags, Garbutt/Oviedo, Gibson, McGeady, Atsu/Pienaar, Eto'o.
