If he would want next years salary then he can sit at home under contract. As you say, releasing his contract is to his benefit I'm sure his agent wont want him to retire so maybe he can find him something. USA might be a good fit for him.

If Ravel Morrison can have about 12 different clubs in as many years in his "career" then there will always be a club somewhere willing to take a chance on Dele Alli because he was good once, and a manager somewhere who will always think they'll be the one to get a tune out of him. The lad could very easily collect wages until he's 30-something, and who says no to millions each year if it's on offer.
