Just realised my reactions to EFC defending a set-piece are the same ones I had watching the shower scene in "Psycho" when I was a youngster

Hopefully there will be enough room at Bramley Dock to hide behind the seats whenever the opposition get a set piece

Pretty sure this photo proves that one of the following two things must be true;
  • Our zonal defence has one zone that is about 24 foot wide In front of the goal that is to be defended (poorly) by one player, OR;
  • Our players haven't got the hang of zonal system yet
Zonal is fine when the players can do it. Our lads have got the first part worked out nicely and can line up very well, nice big gold stars for all.... but as soon as the corner is hit they go a bit headless chicken, flapping all over the place. I'm willing to give Marco a few more weeks to get it improved before joining in with the pitchfork waving.

Reactions: Tak

Why can’t these people adapt to changing reality, what is it with having a particular dogma/system if it doesn’t work.....

It does work. The players might need time to adapt, or to be changed, but a knee jerk response based on a handful of games at the very start of his tenure doesn’t mean a system should be changed. Zonal marking does work, the players might just need some time

If the players don't know their roles, that is on the coach. The problem with zonal marking is that it is extremely exploitable. Hit the ball in the right spot and prepare for mass confusion in the box. If we don't get some insurance on that front post soon, this will continue to happen. We are gifting goals away. Sort it Silva

The more I watch it the more I blame the players. There's no excuse for 3 players being free in the 6 yards area.
well..now that most of the squad is away on International duty that leaves the whole of the defence to practice drills for 2 weeks solid.
Digne Baines Mina Zouma Keane Jags Holgate..
Surely we should see an improvement
