Eggsyblueskin
Player Valuation: £40m
He looked good last night and hopefully will become our ' midfield general'. He certainly has that ability.
Hmmm.
Where do you play him?
He's probably faster than Silva, Dave. Brain > legs.He did ok.
Yes, good around the box as others have suggested. But he passed a lot and that for me betrayed the fact he doesn't have a little turn of pace players who play further up the pitch need to just commit defenders and carry the ball to the box. He may have got the time to do that in Holland but he's got no chance here in the PL of driving at a back four with that pace of his. I think that was also evident against United in that EL final.
It's very early days, but my suspicion that he's a player who is technically sound and who can provide decent interplay but is limited for this league due to pace was firmed up after last night.
Last night underlined how sluggish we are. I dont think it's a lot to do with fitness either. We have no pace and adding Sigurdsson doesn't solve that...neither does losing Barkley.I think it depends on the opposition tbh. Against a team who sits back like last night he'd be effective further up the pitch. Against teams who come at us, he might be better sitting deeper, not as a defensive minded player but as a link to get passed their midfield deeper and set the forwards free.
Difficult to tell from just 1 game, but we have options and depth to our midfield now so we won't be relying on him to be that link, especially if we get someone like sigurdsen in.
I really can't spell sigurdson
No mate. He's probably faster than Silva, Dave. Brain > legs.

Fraid so Dave, unlucky on this one. Probs faster than Mata for sure.No mate.

I know what Dave means though, I said the same last night, that he was lacking a little bit of pace or vision. What I mean by that is that Silva makes up for a lack of pace with the ability to thread balls through the eye of a needle, and seemingly see things before anyone else on the pitch. Klaassen didn't look like that to me last night, he looked neat and tidy, intelligent but not menacing in the way that a Silva is. At the risk of facing the wrath of some, he reminded me of Leon Osman a bit - a very 'nice' footballer with a good brain and good technical ability, but lacking that stand out ability to really cause teams nightmares. He's probably faster than Silva, Dave. Brain > legs.
That's what struck me most about the performance last night.Last night underlined how sluggish we are. I dont think it's a lot to do with fitness either. We have no pace and adding Sigurdsson doesn't solve that...neither does losing Barkley.
Klaassen will be useless in the PL against teams sitting back. He just wont get the time to think and pick a pass out against most teams. He'll need to show he can at least win free kicks by screening the ball and being canny in the final third, because sure as eggs are eggs he wont be surging past many defences here.
Further back he isn't going to trouble either Schneiderlin or Gueye for their places.
Maybe he shows us something more as the months go by, but I have massive reservations over this signing.
Bit harsh comparing him to silva. Not only are they different types of players, but silva is one of the best players in the world in finding space and his passing range.I know what Dave means though, I said the same last night, that he was lacking a little bit of pace or vision. I should point out 2 things here, a) I wasn't an Osman hater so this isn't a criticism as such, and b)I'm solely talking about my impressions last night, not making a judgement on his career.
