This is why I completely dismissed the idea of Klaassen being brought in as a playmaker.

He ain't a no.10, never will be.

He gets goals/assists/chances because of the runs he makes off the ball and the spaces he picks up - a player we've lacked massively from midfield in recent years.

He looks to move the ball forward quickly, and is always on the front foot pressing. He needs a real creative outlet next to him (Gylfi) to ensure he's at his best.

He'll be a very good addition for us. People just need to know what to expect.

This would make plenty of sense if we were buying a proper clever passer. Rather than Gylfi who literally creates as much as Gana in open play. I just don't get it. Literally swap either of Rooney or Gylfi out for a proper playmaker and it all fits.

Thought we had a thread on stats and how skewed they can be, or are they back in fashion because they suit an argument.

Both. Crap stats are crap. Good stats are good.

really reminds me cahill but I am concerned that koeman will never drop Rooney

Cahill drove the team, battled.

Rooney will drive the team and battle.

Take Rooney out and just have Klassen, there's no bite, no real drive.

I will also add that while we're going on about how good his one touch passing is...it's also very limiting in his range.

While people are writing Rooney off, he's still able to spread play and ping a 30 yarder which is something I can't see Klassen doing.

Seems like a great 5-a-side player, meaning he'll be good at home against weaker teams, but not so valuable against the top sides. A bit too weak and slow for those games imo.

He's basically the individual equivalent of a team having 30% possession and winning 2-0.

It's not how often you touch the ball but what you do with it when you do.
Exactly.

The guy could only touch the ball a dozen times for all I care as long as a couple of those touches directly lead to goals.

Late to this. He any good then?

Not an individual star, but he's a melter. When the team melts together, he will be the backbone of that offense. Quick passer, good vision, gets into the box. Bit weak on the physical side, not that quick. Maybe a bit like Adam Lallana?
