2017/18 Davy Klaassen

I don't think he was particularly impressive or anonymous when he came on. However I thought he was involved, forward thinking and relatively creative.

The only thing I took away from his cameo at the weekend is that the treatment he has endured this season has been disgraceful, an unarsed Schneiderlin, a hopelessly out of form Davies, a good but limited Gana and a very slow Wayne Rooney have all been given chance after chance. Nothing that Klaassen did or didn't do against Soton suggested that he deserved to spend virtually a whole season in exile.

Great club...

I hope he stays and a manager comes in with a clean slate and gives him a chance to stake his claim to a place.
If Brands does come in he will know his every strength and weakness and let the new manager know them and hopefully get the best out of him

Pity that Koeman writing in Holland reckons Klassen's main problem has proven to be unsuitability to the pace and physicality of the PL. Not much point persevering if that is the case. Everton have been so poor that a half decent Klassen should have walked into the team ahead of the rubbish Rooney and the rubbish Davies. Obviously he is even less well thought of than those two by the people who pick the team.

No one can just walk in and get ahead of Rooney though, so that's a moot point.

Mad how low the expectations/standards are for this fella, he looked ok when chasing the game against a relegation side. And people are acting as if he’s ran the show against Barcelona.

I wish more folks would have this attitude. I mean it wasn't long ago when we were sifting through the bargain bin loaning in Drenthe and Denis. People moaned when we didn't spend money...people moan when we do spend money.

I would agree, except that after 30 odd years of being left behind, the first time we have money, I would have preferred it if we didn’t have a manager in place who spent like a drunken sailor.

If we sold the players Koeman signed we’d be lucky to recoup half. Only Pickford & Gana would fetch more than they cost. We'll take some bit hits on the rest.

Edit. And would think Gana was definitely a Walsh signing. Pickford too? Klaasen certainly down to Koeman & would suspect Williams too.

A squad player at best...Maybe deserves a chance , but when he was starting , he did very little to impress me tbh
Hadn't started a PL game since September....

Most played get the benefit of bedding in period. None of us have seen enough to make a proper judgement.

I get you , but even in our Disaster of our European trip , he struck me as a rabbit caught in headlights.
Maybe does deserve another summer to show what he can do?

Why would 3 managers not want to use him more though? We have been awful for most of the season and he still couldn't get near the squad. Suggests he's some way off the standard required.

Just saying that plenty of other players have hte benefit of time, he seems to have been given none.

Not saying he's the answer mate, but also I think the fact he led an Ajax team to Europa League final suggests he isn't tosh and deserved an actual run in the team.

Can't be any worse than Tom Davies.

Not sure about Klaassen to be honest. In order for him to play in his favourite number 10, he must be better than siggy, he’s not.

For him to be effective as a box to box midfielder, he lacks the pressing and intensity of Davies.

To play him in a defensive midfielder, he lacks defensive ability and tackling. Gana is much better.

So I’m not really sure if he fits our team.
If he improves his intensity, closing down, pressing and bursting forward with the ball, there’s no way Davies or Schneiderlin should be pick ahead of him.

We cannot carry too many passive midfielder and expect Gana to do all the dirty work alone. Klaassen was bought without much research.
