I was laughed at for suggesting it was a mistake to get rid of Barry :(

..lots of us are Barry fans. I don’t actually think RK was keen on him leaving but in the end the club couldn’t do much about it. Given his age and service the player wanted to leave, the lure of Birmingham and regular football was the attraction and EFC felt obliged to let him go.

Lads it’s October. A new player from a different league and you’re almost unanimously writing off the captain of Ajax who got them to a Europa League final. A player heralded by Cruyff himself. But you know a player better.

Maybe he won’t work, maybe he will, but this sort of scrutinising this early on isn’t too smart is it really? There’s no prizes for being first to write off a player, especially when he plays for your club and you want him to come good.

There’s countless examples of foreign midfielders coming from different leagues and taking time to settle in. It’s a fast paced and aggressive league we play in, how many of you wrote off Fellaini?

It’s October lids. No ones particularly happy with the season so far but the writing off of Davy Klaassen is more than a bit weird.
Unfortunately, Chico, this is what FatHead had reduced us to. We're all bitching and looking for easy targets on which to vent our frustration when we should be getting behind the team. But RK just doesnt seem to have a clue and now sends out ill-prepared teams which can neither defend nor attack...and which certainly cannot score goals.
We should have been able to use the City (A) performance as a catalyst to kick on but instead we have rapidly gone backwards and that is the responsibility of the management team not any specific player on the pitch (albeit l accept that Williams has been woeful this season and has contributed to making two horrendous mistakes )

I've read this and it is well thought out and makes a lot of sense.

Klaassen is utterly terrible and we can be certain of this since August 2017

I feel he would have played in most if not all games so far to be honest

I admire the length of time you've put into researching Klaassen before coming up with a steadfast conclusion on his ability as a football player.

I believe you're right mate, but I have to disagree with the bold bit.

He was under contract with us for another season, a contract he'd been all too happy to sign when he wasn't sure he'd get a better offer. The club should absolutely not have felt obligated to let him leave. Personally I just don't get the idea that Lukaku, Stones etc who have left to better themselves and in turn earned the club enormous amounts of money are snakes who should be hounded, but someone who buggered off for free and left us in the lurch at the first opportunity is a model pro who we should all admire and thank for honouring us with his presence.

Klaassen is still not winning me over, and I have yet to see anything whatsoever to suggest he was worth anything like what we've paid for him. There's still time for obviously, but it would be nice just to see hints of some promise rather than the listless performances he's produced thus far.

After the service Barry has provided us I don't begrudge him whatsoever for moving on for free to play regular first team football. Not even in the slightest; I actually admire him at his age for not wanting to sit on his arse.

Which is fine as long as you also admire Stones, Lukaku, Barkley etc for wanting to win trophies and not spend another season in the bottom half. If you don't, it just smacks of sour grapes, which is the point I was making. Many people seem to say Barry left us no choice but to let him go but it's fine whereas Lukaku left us no choice and it's a disgrace. Seems strange to me, that's all.

This.
pretty much what Koeman said when he left.

I disagree with this bold bit too. But I don't think the club 's management thought Barry would be playing enough this season to justify his pay, so why not let him go for everyone's benefit. No snakieness needs to be assigned to Gareth Barry - let him go and remember him well, it's much easier on your own well-being.

Come on Davy Klaassen, turn in a couple of performances and I'll be happy to get behind him. At the moment, I just don't get him at all.

Allowing Barry - not a regular - to go for free is fine and who's saying the club didn't have a choice? It's well documented Koeman (manager not club) didn't want him to go but respected him and allowed the transfer. Lukaku, Barkley, Stones - i.e. high value, regular starters - is a completely different situation IMO.

The difference isn't that much, they were all allowed to leave!

The only one we've put up a fight with was Martinez with Stones.

You misunderstand me, I don't see Barry as a snake at all, I just don't see the others as snakes either. Players will always look out for themselves, Barry has done that just as much as the others and yet the situation is seen by some as completely different.

The point for me is that we are not a charity, if the management wanted to keep Barry they should have done, if they felt it was ok to let him go then that's fine, but lets not pretend we had no choice in the matter. It is of course possible that he would have fallen down the pecking order with us, but the performances of others so far - including Klaassen - suggests he would have got plenty of opportunities for gametime had he stayed.

I find it odd how hes being singled out, the entire team is a shambles, no on single person is worse than the other, we've got a £50m midfielder looking like Phil Neville at the moment.
