2017/18 Davy Klaassen

Seems strange that a player the manager must have seen a hundred times, scouted numerous times but is unsure where his best position is within his team and his formation.

i heard he used to play attacking mid for Ajax then moved back last season and had far more success. Maybe Koeman long term sees him as a centre mid but knows he would be swamped in that position while he's still adjusting so starts him further up the pitch in a familiar role so he isn't a liability if we get caught out further back

Blimey, your reasoning is almost as confused as El Cloggo's

Playing a player in a safer position while they adapt to a league? We've done it with a few players, usually defenders but it's not confused. It's probably wrong but that doesn't mean the rational behind it is mental when it's something we've done in the past

I think Klaasen is a good player and if it wasn't for the fact we also signed two much more high profile (undroppable apparently) attacking midfielders this summer we'd be seeing a lot more good things from him.
It also doesn't help that when he does start he seems to get in ahead of fan favourite Davies which doesn't endear him to the fans.

Even for Ajax he was a 'nothing special' type of player.

Very good at doing the basics and running into the box to score against lower level teams.

I said when we were linked he would have been (at best) 4th choice signing from that club, if at all...

He literally doesn't have any major skill which would make him standout...

No idea why we signed him other than backup to Davies :o

I can't comment on him at all in Holland mate, I don't watch any of their football in fairness. It's strange that Cryuff rated him so highly, I know he's obviously not going to flat out say he's awful in an interview about him but he compared him to some very good players. Surely a "Yer, he's decent lad" answer would have just done the job
