This is another massive casualty of the Sam Hammam MkII era, have no doubt about that.

We have lost here a man who has been key to the development of our youngsters and got many through to the first team. That's come about because he was handed a ridiculous poison chalice of trying to get a first team shot of confidence back up the league (which he succeeded in doing, btw) without ever being given the credibility of named full time manager.

The general perception is that he has lost face now and needs to go out to prove himself as manager and that's what he's doing. Our best interests however were served better by him staying here in his role at the Academy, but the upset caused by making him PT first team manager has wrecked that.

An utter shambles this season has turned out to be.
He lost a couple of matches and looked a shell of a man and still was brave enough to say "I love this club and will do all I can to lead it for however long is required of me". He must have said words to that effect a number of times, even after a few thrashings, and I think it was totally out of order for the board to just feed him out to the wolves like that with no indication of how long he'd have to do it for. I wish him all the best if he does go, he has a fantastic attitude

Good Morning and thanks for allowing me registration.

Strong rumours down here and on the betting exchanges that he's in line to be our (Oxford's) next manager.

Would fit our approach as we are a club renowned for bringing on young players and having success that way. We've taken Jonjoe from you along with Ryan Ledson & Conor McAleny so he would be know to our club and our chairman. Dave Jones who works for Sky is also on our board so maybe a link that way?

Hi mate, I`m not claiming to be an ITK or anything.

My best mate works as part of the security team at our training ground ( Finch Farm ).

From what he tells me, is that Unsworth is universally liked by all there, as he is such a grounded and down to earth fella.

He treats everyone from the cleaners to the players the same and has no ego at all.

If true, I think you`re getting a future top coach and a very nice fella.

I did NOT know this...

Unsworth set out the game plan for that match. Have you EVER seen us play like that under this cave man in the dug out right now?
That win was the first in a series of good results for us coming after a series of poor results and poor performances under David Unsworth.

One win at home to West Ham won't change that and several poor performances where he left Rooney Rooney out of the team made me believe he was not the man to manage the first team... which was unfortunate because I really hoped he was. He gets the the club, he knows what it means and if he gets the opportunity to learn his trade at a smaller club then he should take.

You have your opinions , I have mine.
I believe the West Ham game had as much to do with the man in the stand as it had with the man on the line.

Losing Unsworth would be a blow for the development of the young players and also the rehabilitation of some older ones but it would be the making of him. He needs to go out and test himself particularly after his brief spell in charge at Goodison. I can see him being a good fit at Oxford, he will develop the club and himself.

I`m properly sworn to secrecy on certain things Neil, that`s all I can say.

If I did, I`d be found hanging from a bridge, wearing womens stockings and with an orange in my mouth.

Hang on I`m getting mixed up with last Friday, let me get back to you.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH

Well.. glad you have a real friend, its what we all strive for really...

He just didn't have the backing of the board. The players knew it and didn't do all they could. What he also didn't have was the experience of managing big losses in front of the camera glare. An experienced boss just takes that on and deflects it.

A lot of the Unsworth 'failings' were perception and should easily have been neutralised.

As said, proof of the pudding is that he shifted us more places up the league than Allardyce has and he acquired more points per game.

Perception trumps reality though. :coffee:

Ha ha ha.
I've seen a few posts along these lines and they are quite comical. To have had any chance of qualification we needed to win all 3 of the remaining games, 2 of which were away. FFS we only managed to draw with the 10 men Cypriot team at home. any hope we had of qualifying from that group were shattered when we conceded that second against Lyon.

But no, Unsy got us knocked out of the Europa didn't he?

I was told he was leaving this morning but the fella who said it said it’s just rumours . He didn’t say why . He’s told me other stuff in the past that didn’t happen so I was sceptical of posting it .
