David Unsworth - Temporary Manager

I think Unsworth should be employed to prove his worth until the end of the season, unless we are in dire straits of course! He "gets" us and I am particularly liking his eloquent media comments. He is a clever fella in terms of emotional and football intelligence. Whilst I am here, I also want to apologise to Davek - You got the Koeman thing right mate.

All summer it was obvious that there was a massive overspend on players of dubious quality. I said at the time they were finite resources - the type of windfall from a big sale that happens every generation (two if you're lucky as we had with Stones and Lukaku).

Moshiri employed and indulged a manager who wanted to spend his way to respectability...not success, respectability.

It was an irresponsible appointment - poorly thought through and will cost us for years to come.

I suspect someone like Gill would have the same reaction to Birch all those years ago: straight in the front door and back out a few months later shaking his head.
Iirc: "It's not MY money!"

Not really arsed but think he’s been excellent at under 23 levels and would be gutted to see him leave that and fall flat on his face.

Just realised that Unsworth is 5 years older than Moyes was when he joined Everton and 9 years older than Kendal was. Any lack of experience he has in some ways, he probably makes up for in others.

Lets see where we are by the next game at Goodison. If Unsworth can get an away win at Lyon the he will have achieved what Koeman couldn't - a win in the EL. I've got my fingers crossed for him that he can start to turn the tide and start getting the results we should be getting.

But we are in dire straights, aren't we?

So, you would employ someone on the back of one result?

I dont think we are......yet. Under Koeman, we were definitely heading there, I have no doubt about that. If Unsworth can steady the ship and get us playing, we are currently only three points off 12th placed Brighton. It's grim being where we are, no question about that. But it's not a relegation fight just yet. The next 3-4 prem games are crucial and we have to start getting points on the board. Preferably three of them per game.

Been seeing some comments around his presser saying "love unsy give him the job"
"Get him in he talks sense" "give him a go until Jan"

This has always been a problem for fans - press conferences. Anybody can sit at a table and say what you want to hear but you can't give somebody a job based on that!

Remember when Moyes called us the peoples club and everyone wet themselves.

Martinez said its in our DNA and that suddenly became a club slogan.

Koeman was brutally honest about Stones, Ross and Rom and everyone was loving him.

Why do we do it? Everyone should be saying "Give Unsworth a chance to see what he can do and if it doesn't work out we get someone in"

I keep seeing comments like "I love this man"

Its about results on the pitch! He has played one game! Yes we seen positives but you can't give a man a job based on that!

This has been our problem for years. Why can't we just keep our mouths closed and let results do the talking?

I want Unsworth to do well, don't take this the wrong way. I would love to see him get offered a contract but WE CAN'T SAY IT YET! WE HAVE TO WAIT!

People complain we don't get treated like a big club, we are not going to when we cream ourselves over interviews because someone says "We are Everton." I want to see us win against Leicester but its going to be tough! They are a fighting team! Are our players up for a fight?

We go to Lyon next week to play another strong side and that is going to be hard.

To get results against those 2 teams will be some feat but please lets judge the manager on the next 5 or 6, not the next 1 or 2.

Do you think if Ryan Giggs sat down at a Utd presser and said "U.N.I....." do you think the Utd fans would say "Give this man the job, he gets us" NO. They would base it on results because they know what success looks like.

We, as a fanbase are happy to have a manager who understands us. Yes, I like that as well but I also want to see results!

Please, anybody who thinks I am bashing here, I'm not. I am fully behind any man who gets in the seat but I am also smart enough not to be taken in by words. I will judge performance and results.

Beat Lyon, stomp Atalanta and destroy Limassol. If he does that he gets my vote. I don't think we are in a relegation fight, we'll be safe. But let's face it. If you're just going to compete in the league and stay safe mid-table, appoint Dyche, Alladyce etc...

If Unsworth can pick up the gauntlet and out-think and out-fight in Europe, he's the man for the job.

We haven't had a manager who can do that since Kendall, if you believe or want our club back on the map that is what we need. Getting into the top four is a greater challenge than even the most astute and talented managers in world football might struggle to achieve. But that can wait.

Cometh the hour cometh the man. There isn't a better time for an Evertonian to take over. Show us what you can do son.

He should become assistant manager to a new, more high profile manager. This would give him more first team experience and make sure he isn’t as naive when it comes to tactics and formations throughout a game. For example not having men on the posts for corners the other night! The other point is the stage of the “project “ that we are at. We need someone who will attract bigger name players, not sure Unsy could. I’d hate him to leave though as, on the surface, he gets the team playing the right way.

Where did he say that?.

Good performances/results in the next few games may see his temporary job extended until end of year. If it is then extended until end of season, or even made permanent, I wont be too unhappy as it means he is doing well in the role.
