David Unsworth - Temporary Manager

I think we may have that replacement already you know. Otherwise, we may as well have given him the chance to turn it round. He got through 1 in 13 last season.

Seems one of two scenarios: either we're happy to give Unsworth a shot for an extended period or we've privately been given a 'yes' by another manager.

Anything other than one of the above would make little sense.

Well the players want unsworth. Can see the merits in that, knows the place and the players inside out. They will be accustomed to his ideas I guess, especially the younger ones who have come through the academy. However the manager of Everton Football Club is a massive job and the demands and pressures that go with it. To me it requires an experienced manager to meet that criteria, who has proven experience at the top level.

The players can bog off. they get Martinez and its all "oh hes too nice, get rid", so we get Koeman and its all "Oh he is horrible and mean to us, get rid".

Sod them, bunch of losers.

I've liked the u23s matches and the way he sets up teams, they close down, get stuck in and work hard for him. This is exactly what we need and if the players want him in, they'll work hard for him.

He doesn't have much experience at the top level, but he knows the club, knows how to get the players playing to get the crowd involved and if he gets a bit of time, I think he could do a good job.

Delighted to see Rhino having another chance at managing Everton again albeit as a temporary measure. Nobody expects miracles from him and it will be a real breath of fresh air having someone in charge who 'gets' Everton and will put his heart and soul into managing a team that he loves with passion. We have been missing that badly. Be interesting to see how the next few weeks pan out. It feels nice to be excited about watching the blues again tomorrow regardless of the result. Hope it goes well for him.

Fact is though in this day and age you have to bring the players with you. You can't be an autocrat, you have to have a collective ethic, everyone working for each other. I believe Unsworth will bring this. Players have so much power, but if it's harnessed it can work. Look at Chelsea, for years that club was run by the owner and 3 or 4 senior players. They had loads of managers but they also won loads of trophies.

- Unsworth gets the job after pressure from the fans and slowly the results slide due to lack of experience, the fans turn on him and he leaves the club permanently

Scenario 2:-

- The club decides against permanently appointing Unsworth and go for an experienced manager more capable of leading us

- The fans piss and moan and cry that it’s a disgrace that the job wasn’t given to ‘one of us’ and Unsworth goes back to his old job slightly embarrassed by the whole situation and eventually leaves the club

Sadly, either of these could quite easily happen.

Number two is more likely, but the fans will only moan if the new manager (not Unsworth) doesn't dramatically improve results/performances. If Unsworth doesn't get it he needs to leave and get a job as a first team manager, for his own development.

Or scenario 4. Unsworth comes in, does a good job and gets the club in a healthy state for a more experienced guy to take over, then reverts to being under 23 manager because he's happier in that role.

It's amazing how it's possible to think of scenarios that aren't utterly depressing and negative init, mate?

i think he'll do ok. I don't see him getting the job full time yet and there is part of me that doesn't want him too because the expectations are so high the moment it goes bad it could ruin his managerial carrier before it's even begun. Sadly he's outgrown the 23's and needs a proper job, maybe in the championship to cut his teeth but if he drags us up the league, the players repsond and we look decent he'll have as much of a chance as anyone of gettiing the job full time
