David Unsworth - Temporary Manager

We're unbeaten in our last two matches. The rot has to stop at some point and this may be the start of that, I don't know. But we had people moaning when we were getting beat week in week out, now they are moaning after a home win and an away draw. They were saying things like "We need that bit of luck..." Now they say "We were crap, we just got lucky...".

A few weeks back we were crying out for a win, anything but another defeat. Now the football is not pretty enough. We are not going to be playing games in the style of the 1970s Brazil team; it's going to take some ugly, blood and guts, football at times. The needed points will be picked up, mostly, with us scraping and scrapping through games rather than with finesse. The team needs to do what they need to do, to get to be where they need to be.

David Unsworth will not get the job (IMHO), but I can see him being in charge for the rest of the Month. That's what? Three more games? That'll give the new guy the whole of December to get to know his players and to see exactly the type player he needs to buy in January.
Coming back 5 times in last 5 goals we've conceded certainly indicates a change in spirit and fight from what went on before. We've not had a full 7 days between games with full squad since he took over and we won't until after possibly the 6th January, depending when we play FA cup game. That gives, whoever is coaching little time to actually coach the team. I wouldn't expect more than a gradual improvement in how we play over this time, with ups and downs in how we play. People are vastly overestimating the impact that Unsworth should have had and taking little account of time he's actually had to work with the players. January is when we'll start to get a bit of a breather with 7 days between matches for a few weeks on the bounce.

I fear that under Unsworth we will be deep in relegation trouble by January, we can't rely on another two months of the luck we've enjoyed the last two games. Leave Unsworth in and come Jan. we'll be beaming the Fat Sam light over Goodison and desperately ringing the Fat Sam phone for help.

I agree, I think the time he's had, given his level of experience, he's improved the morale in the squad and the spirit of the players, which was about as much as he could have done.

Made some tough calls regarding Rooney too (i.e., playing Niasse and DCL in favour of him), which I think has somehow helped get us some points.

He has done OK, hasn't had time to out his stamp on the squad how he wants them to play, due to the games coming thick and fast.
I think this has come a little bit to early for him and the state we are in to much of a gamble .
Plus points are we are at least fighting under him and he seems to be getting a bit of luck when it matters,

I don’t think it is luck. Or rather, you
Make your own luck. Unsworth has had four games only one of which has been Koeman like in terms of performance. I certainly wouldn’t be splurging another 20m to bring in the lad from Watford. Whilst we’ve got Unsworth we can always get in another Guy if it goes badly wrong, but once we spend 20m that’s it we are committed

4 points in the last 2 games is big improvement from where we were against Arsenal

Let's be honest though, Koeman could've easily got the same results since Arsenal. It's not like there's been a huge turn around.

The performances have still been poor, put simply: if we'd lost the last two games could we really complain? I don't think so. Right now I couldn't think of a team you'd rather play against in the league. If you don't gift us goals in the way Watford and Palace did then you've got the three points sewn up. Not every team is going to be so charitable.

There has been. If we'd conceded two against Watford or Palace with Koeman still as manager, the players would have just given up. At least under Unsy we haven't completely collapsed. There's at least a bit more effort being put in, even though the performances are still abysmal for the most part.

We'd have collapses to 4-0 and have been treated to an explanation of "but okay, that's football..."

It's been heading that way since last season mate.

Not getting rid of Jagielka, bringing in Williams, with the catalyst being not signing another one.
Signing Williams was a huge (literally) mistake. Really needed to sign a good centre half in the 26-28 age group, with a bit of pace & organisational ability. Not a slow ageing centre half who has only played for a bottom half Prem team.

I haven't seen much of a turn around performance wise with Rhino, not one that would make me want him to stay on as manager anyway. Sure they are a bit more passionate but that is fully expected given the change of leadership from a heartless Koeman to a passionate blue blooded caretaker but lets be honest, we are still absolute crud bar a couple of 15 minute spells and probably the worst team in the league.

5 games played, lost 3, won 1, drew 1, conceded 11 goals and scored 6. Out of Europe with 2 games still to play, out of the league cup.

We were lucky to win against Watford at home thanks to Cleverley and we got completely outclassed by bottom of the league Palace and were lucky to get a draw.

Not good enough and not worth the risk of leaving it for much longer. Got to get a new manager in this week.

I don't agree but that's the great thing about football we've all got different opinions. What we need is a time machine so we can see who's right and sort it all out lol
