David Unsworth appreciation thread

Hi lads. I know you're upset and angry about Everton right now and want instant solutions, you millennial bellwipes.

So, let us realise that you're not player Virtual Chairman App.

Consider these few points if you're pushing Unsworth to replace Koeman rar now.
  • Unsworth has no sustained experience as manager of a professional football's first team.
  • Everton play in the Premier League where a lot of other managers are near the top of their profession.
  • Unsworth would be pitted against them every week.
  • Such internal appointments midway through a season seldom work, and often end up in relegation.
  • Many of them expensive players we just signed, they signed for Koeman.
Let's give it a wee while and see before your calls to potentially torpedo Everton come to fruition.

* devil's advocate only, I like Unsworth myself

Same, I really like Unsworth, it must be said, hes always come across as a sound fella, but the points above are my main issues with him.

Pretty sure Rooney, Jagielka, Baines, Coleman and anyone who has been at the club for at least a few years would respect him like.

But the point is players aren't going to sign for David Unsworth which is the main reason he shouldn't be our next manager.

Really the only way Unsworth could work is if we had a really high profile DOF who was behind Rhino and could convince players to join.
I disagree and that's such a simple reductionist view which I think bears little resemblance to what happens. Players move for the opportunity of playing for a bigger club who'll pay them more money. Anyway if we are sell to buy then we'll need to adopt a different approach to be successful by having a young progressive coach who'll bring young players through. That may or may not be Unsworth but I'd like to see him given a chance to the end of season to find out.

Not a single pro over the age of 20 would respect him.

His appointment would signal the end of any sort of ambition from the club to be a success.
Haha well Niaisse would for a start. Respect is earned by any manager by how they conduct them self in the job. I'm sure a lot of players started out respecting Koeman for what he was as a player but there seems to be more than a few who don't have much respect for him now.

Whether he's the long term answer, I don't know but he should be a first team coach for a start and currently he couldn't do much worse than the coaches Ronald brought with him.

I’ve no idea if he actually wants the 1st team job???

Personally, I’d rather he didn’t get it. He’s doing a fantastic job with the u23. Maybe that’s his forte. I’d hate to put him in the firing line & be calling for his head in a few months.

I’d sack Koeman tonight & put Unsie in charge tomorrow, but only until we find a replacement.
Of course he wants the job! He applied for it when they chose Koeman.

Bro, did you just cordially agree with a post of mine on here?

Sadly yes, I wanted to clarify my position regarding Unsworth the player, I loved his attitude, he wasnt the best, but he gave 100% every single second he played and the man, both of which I really like, Unsworth the manager? Not sure on really.

But to equal it out, ive just bailed on ya mar without dropping her a flim.

To win the league with the U23's, and then have that squad decimated by loans away etc and still produce a winning side - he's clearly got something.

Still think I'd rather see him cut his teeth in the Championship or lower leagues. Bonus with Unsworth is he's a big blue, he'd come back to us anytime we liked.

Come to me Phillip.

Managing kids is a very different proposition to managing the inflated egos in a 1st team. Many of whom might look down on him as a journeyman pro.

If he really wants the top job, he should go & manage in the championship. Work his way up. No premiership club should throw an untried manager in & Everton definitely shouldn’t.
I know what the hell were Liverpool doing when they appointed Paisley with no top flight managerial experience to take over from Shankly! Clueless.
