2025/26 David Moyes

I had a similar conversation yesterday after the game, we went to the Bramley Moore Social for a pint and one of the lads asked why I was smiling. I said because I was having a pint in the sunshine with my mates.

As you get older you realise that there’s so much more to a football result, yes it’s not great to lose to them, but it’s pointless moping round about it.

It was too bright outside for the mood I was in but a few gin tins on the plaza soon sorted that

I was thinking the same earlier. Moyes in his first spell lost a lot of derbies but we also won 4 by being a physical team. Cahill and the rest of them took no prisoners and handed a few reducers out before the cards were shown and we had a little bit of pace and we're more direct.

I think the difference is in Moyes now. The last three derbies since he returned we've tried to remain 'calmer' and carry the ball a lot to them - I dont want a return to direct play, but in a derby and especially at home in that atmosphere we needed the blue touch paper lit with a meaty challenge or two and really force that lot to think whether they fancied a fight yesterday.

Moyes was unlucky at times in his first spell with appalling officiating and dealing with the Gerrard and Carragher influence. He even got robbed at Anfield when Distin scored last minute.

Certain managers made the mistake of being too expansive against them and we got destroyed.

We're still carrying too many players that aren't good enough to have a proper go at them. McNeil, Mykolenko, Tarkowski, Keane, Barry and probably O'Brien (as a right back) just aren't good enough at this level. Tbh even Garner and Gueye were a level below yesterday.

Consequently we're left picking our moments and having to defend exceptionally well throughout to get 3 points. As soon as it went 1-0 to them, you just felt the life drain out of our team and supporters because we know how tough a ask the game had become.

Let's just hope they spunk another £400m this summer and we get every transfer right. It's going to take something like that for this fixture to change.

Carsley is certainly worth a shout if that's your criteria.

I'd be happy going into a series of derbies with a local lad or ex-player.

Can you imagine either of those losing 16 derbies in 12 seasons? I find it hard to believe.

That suggests to me that the manager doesn't emphasise this fixture at all. In fact, foreign Liverpool managers who have the bigger fish of CL competition to fry have usually been more up for a derby than Moyes has ever been.

I cant remember Moyes ever being furious after a derby loss. He's way too respectful of them and always will be.

In a derby, 'cap in hand gets kick in teeth', as they used to say.

I bet you if he managed Celtic he wouldn't get away with such a dismal record in derbies and he wouldn't dare say the things he has about the opposition either.

Moyes would last 5 minutes up there.

He's a faux disciplinarian and an utter fake.

When he was at Celtic Boys Club he was trying to be all officious and 'managerial' with other players. In the real world of OF football he'd 💩 himself.
