2025/26 David Moyes

Quite incredible that, despite the overwhelming evidence of nearly 13 years in charge of Everton, some people are still surprised by how David Moyes performs against Liverpool.
He is good to a point. Trying not to be reactionary but we had no midfield support for Beto other than Dewsbury Hall. No drive to press and get at them after the first goal. Beto was admirable today by the way. I wonder what the point is of having a squad? Moyes settles on 12/13 players and that is it. We are therefore predictable.
Another worry is that Pickford is excellent at stopping shots but incredibly weak in commanding his six yard area when we face crosses/corners. We have paid for that this season. Moyes is fine for now but I think maybe another season and his work will be done.
The next stage will be a manager who will be ruthless in finding better than favourites and axing those who are very good but not good enough.

It wasn't three seasons of near relegation though was it. Dyche's first full season was mid table and we only got close to the relegation zone because of the points deduction. Last season was nowhere close to relegation. So that's effectively two seasons of mid table finishes before this season. Let's see exactly where we finish at the end of this season and then we can fully judge it.
Fair enough

The lack of credibility of those determined to avoid criticising Moyes is staggering. Apparently Liverpool MUST always beat Everton because they spend more.

Un 'kin real.

We have a loser manager and people who worship him and wont get up off their knees to demand more against Liverpool from him.

No wonder theKopites laugh their bollocks off at the fanbase of this club placing that clueless biff on a pedestal. They can see what he is for them: an utter coward who hands them there points almost every single time.

They're toasting Moyes again tonight and looking forward to the next two derbies. THAT is the cast iron truth of the matter.

The man has the record of losing to them most in the premier League era. His record against them is atrocious

Moyes is frustrating. He has many good qualities but his cautious nature has held him back throughout his managerial career and prevented him being elite

….i certainly didn’t, i said to Mrs Eggs I thought they’re more likely to score. I think we became detatched after the subs, the reality is we didn’t test the substitute keeper.

Our substitutions certainly didn’t help our cause.
Two of them were enforced though. And everyone wanted George to start after last week's cameo. It was a weird game because it felt like we were all over them at times but they obviously have extra class were it counts. If the NDiaye goal counts or Beto scores the 1 v 1 I think we win comfortably. But we are cursed when to comes to that lot. Passed caring. The Pickford Derby was the ultimate. Played them off the park and lost

It's Groundhog day with Davey. Chance to go sixth? Find a way to lose.

We've had this all season. The reason we fail to go sixth every time the chance presents itself is because Davey hits his ceiling. It's not going to change no matter how long we give him or cross our fingers.

It won't definitely change with a new manager either. However, a good replacement would at least offer hope. I didn't for a minute believe that we would win this today as I sat in an Irish pub here in Berlin with a pal, a pile of Reds, and, to my delight, a few voluble Evertonians who revealed themselves with a roar when Ndiaye scored - or at least we thought he had. It was lovely not to be alone.

Sadly, we got the usual outcome by the end with a season-ender for Brathwaite thrown in as the cherry on the rancid cake replete with Beto's appaling miss, McNeil's ridiculous mistake, and the gut punch of conceding after thinking we had gone ahead.

Carlsberg don't do Merseyside Derby defeats, but if they did...

100% correct...but here's Moyes' post match verdict: "we were the better team and probably should have won so STFU and accept we lost. AGAIN".

...and his little helpers on here accept the losses dutifully and love him for acting like the utter 'kin loser he is.

That's about where we stand right now.

I keep seeing people say that this squad has been battling relegation battles and Moyes need more time and better players and we should be grateful for being mid table.

Just imagine what he could do if he managed a top club who had been battling for league titles with proven winners as players.
Game over on the Moyes debate. Moomin nails it.

I think 3 seasons of near relegation is a little misleading, as the middle year 23/24 was solely due to the points deduction & not due to performance. We would have finished 12th without that deduction.

22/23 was near relegation but due to the appointment of Lampard who as Dyche said, didn’t know how to win, unfortunately. It will be interesting to see how he does next season with Coventry.
They were still three horrible seasons but we'll not fall out over it.

Can the past 20 years of him managing and him absolutely shitting the bed vs top 6 sides be taken into account?

When do we move on? It feels like some people would be more than happy for him to linger around for another decade. Villa brought in Emery and never looked back, so why keep putting Everton in this box where we’re supposedly incapable of attracting a top manager, especially now with new owners and a new stadium?

Moyes ball just doesn't cut it at the new ground. Even the pitch is too big for it

Slightly on the harsh side Davek but I nodded at most at what you wrote there

…they were, Kev. I was going to include that in my post. George wasn’t enforced but was obvious even if he was hugely disappointing.

He didn’t have a lot of scope but I did wonder if Iroegbunam might give us a little more energy. I’m sure we all have different thoughts but on the whole he managed the game fine.

We have to do better with our signings this summer, Moyes is partly accountable for what is looking like a couple of very expensive poor acquisitions.
