2025/26 David Moyes

A garbage PL team that's barely clinging to the top half of the table with a goal differential of zero brushed aside Real Madrid...

And they were brushed aside by PSV. So PSV smash Madrid then?

We can all play they beat them so that proves this. Lets not do playground arguments

Put them on a neutral ground and Madrid would eviscerate Liverpool

He`s changed the goal posts for Moyes this season more times than the ground staff at FF.

I think we can safely assume at this juncture, that he`s just making stuff up as he goes along in a desperate attempt to save face. ( again )
If we get 3 more in with quality I cant see any reason why a decent go for Europe cant happen this season.

Moyes might be suited to not getting those players in though...he never wants expectation to live up to.
Barry - looks nowhere near PL suited
Aznou (because Moyes wont play him)
Dibling - not the direct player we needed

Just those three we look to have blown £60M on.

Jury out on Rohl

Alcaraz and Grealish and KDH are the successes...and we already knew Alacaraz would be able to do a reasonable job.

To me, that's at best a 5/10 transfer window.

That cash spent on Barry, Aznou and Dibling - spent well - could and should have solved our goal scoring issues and RB issue.
Rohl looks like he has the PL attributes. Dibling I'm not over-confident he'll do what we need of him - or even can do it.
Interestingly, on 16th August, he said with 3 more quality signings we should have a push for Europe. After that date, we only signed King, Dibling and Rohl.

But now, despite not making 3 quality signings, as he doesn’t rate Dibling, jury’s out on Rohl and the other was a third choice keeper, Europe is the target.

So surely then that means that by us being in European places, Moyes is overachieving and therefore Dave must think he is doing a good job.

This is what the likes of Michael Owen would want you to believe.

At the very top that might be true. The current game demands more physically so a more technically limited player who has physical gifts has a greater chance of making it into a top side (I see you James Milner). Today's game is less about individualism too, so the maverick won't make it in a top side without the hard work and being more humble.

But that's at the top end. Otherwise the modern game demands a lot more technically of players than it did. The pace of the game is faster, the tactics generally require that players are able to play with the ball in all areas of the pitch.

It's easy to look 20 years ago and harp for the likes of a Ronaldinho or an Henry or a John Terry

But people forget that the likes of Robbie Savage, Michael Brown or (whisper it) Tony Hibbert had long and established premier league careers.

Think we look at football through rose tinted glasses based on highlights packages and the longing diatribes of ex players.

I re-watched the full 90 back of the France Brazil World Cup semi final in 06 the other day (I have no life) and honestly, the standard of football was shocking compared to today

My lad always says this when he watches some of our classic games on DVD.

The game is slower, much more physical and the refs are much more lenient too.

Can you find a link for where Moyes said Europe was the target this season?

And please don’t link the quotes around him talking about how he wants to get us back there because that’s where our club should be. Because that’s different to saying that’s what we should be aiming for this season.
How hard did you search?

Everton's "challenge" for next season in the Premier League should be to try to finish in a position to qualify for Europe, says manager David Moyes.

I don't really see why we should not attempt to do that here at Everton. That has to be the challenge. “We are seeing the odd team now maybe having a go such as Bournemouth and Fulham, while Brentford have tried to show over the years that they can get close to it.
“I don't see why we shouldn't try to get ourselves into that group. If we keep playing the way we have been doing, get results, then we will give ourselves every chance.”

Why did this not stop you falling head over heels in love with the fat kopite walrus when he came in?
Moyes was wirth us for 11 years, treated fantastically well and then insulted Everton.

He also insulted Everton fans for trying to get more investment and Kewnwright out when he was here at the club.

Did Benitez do that?

So just to get this straight and I`ll do a little time line for you, so as not to confuse your clearly demented brain :

After a few games you stated that Moyes would get us relegated = Sack the ginger fraud.

Then results picked up = If he doesn`t get us in the top ten, sack the ginger fraud.

Then the results REALLY picked up = If he doesn`t get us into Europe, sack the ginger fraud.

Then results REALLY REALLY started to pick up and as it stands Europe is a possibility = THE LEAGUE IS CRAP.

There's a reason I hardly ever respond to your posts: ^ that's an example of it.

The thing with Moyes is that there's so much to berate him for.

Full disclosure: I'll never ever like or respect him. He insulted this club and the fans in particular when he was here last time and when he was with United. There's a lot who conveniently forget all that. I'm not one of them.

But I've always conceded this season - after he's had a chance to bring in his own players which he has to the tune of £110M - that if he gets us top 10 then that's adequate and he should be retained for the last year of his contract; a European slot is very creditable...but if we miss top 10 he's failed and he needs to leave.

I cant say fairer than that.

Oh David, who pooh-poohed this club more? Moyes or your good self?

Have you just got your Grinch outfit out of the loft ready for the Christmas Period?

Ah so the aim of getting into the group challenging to get into the lower European spots with the likes of Bournemouth, Fulham and Brentford.

Having just beat two of those teams and being ahead of all of them, I’d say he is currently overachieving that.

Benitez won the Champions League with our neighbours and called us a small club  You are embarrassing yourself here.

Yeah, the club was paying good money to Moyes out of benevolence and not because he was drastically outperforming the resources he had available to him.

Our midfield 20 years ago had Arteta, Cahill, Gravesen, Osman, Fernandes, van der Meyde.

But I am speaking generally, across the world of football, not cherry picking a few players to suit my argument. Football is not as entertaining for me as it was 20 years ago. Not even 10 years ago.

This is not just down to players of course, but style of play deployed by managers and said managers micro-managing players to death that they become risk-averse. And of course, the sport being less and less accepting of tough tackling.

Even international football is lacking star teams that we had 20 years ago.

I think you can make a case that football is now more sterile - same tactics, VAR killing goal celebrations, far less physicality etc
As for the players being less technically gifted across the board than 25 years ago, I just couldn’t agree with that at all. They do the same things, just far quicker.

@MACCA75

Can you explain to me than, what part of the strength of the league effects us.

If the league is stronger - 20 teams are stronger.

If the league is weaker - 20 teams are weaker.

Maybe i just dont get what difference it makes, unless you break it down between strength and weakness throughout the league, not one or the other..
