Playing with 10 men justified Moyes' usual conservative approach. KDH's brilliant contribution to the goal and a tremendous effort from everyone. A perfect performance from Pickford. However, there's a big difference between that and saying Moyes' tactics were excellent. The substitutions were again too late, we were lucky, and besides, Manchester United is a pretty mediocre team.
Two wins on the spin playing 433. He’s made the change that was needed as 4231 wasn’t working. Put Branthwaite in for Keane and a number 8 who can look after the ball instead of Gueye and we’ve got a very decent team there.
I jumped up when the goal went in but I'll be honest the second half did little for me. Backs to the wall scraping a result to move us from 14th to 11th? I've done that enough. I get the circumstances were what they were, but I go back to what I said. What is the goal here? And then I guess following on from that, how are we going to achieve that? I don't see it right now even a little bit.
What do you expect from a team a man down for 70+ minutes? Backs to the wall is what you get. And we still won.
The goal here is stabilizing the reputation of the club in the eyes of potential signings. People honestly need a wake up call to the fact that our reputation as a Premier League team is in the gutter. Bournemouth and Brentford have regularly been beating us and finishing above us these last few years while we've become constant favourites for relegation.
We were headed to a FOURTH consecutive relegation battle before Moyes had turned up and brought us up to a comfortable midtable team and now he's getting us our first win at Old Trafford for 12 years. We finished 12th last year and sit 11th now. Much improved from three years of 17th.
Ridding ourselves of the stink of being a relegation favourite is the first step towards being able to attract the players of quality we need to aim for more. At the moment we are bottom of the list for the players we want to sign like Fofana and having to take gambles on players willing to see the move as a step up like Barry and Dibling (or KDH for regular game time).
He's had one window of replacing half the squad while the reputation of the club has been at its lowest in the eyes of players we want to attract since the time he rocked up after Walter Smith had us the same way at the start of the millennium.
This is what you don't see.
he still has Rohl, Dibling and Armstrong to add to the squad. We are not playing at a top half level. We also have the oldest team in the division. It’s going to be hard to take a step forward next season. That’s really the issue I have. It’s not bad right now.
You don’t need to finish in the top 8 to make smart signings! He simply MUST keep using KDH as a CM and not as a 10. This has been the key to the last 2 performances.
I'd say KDH & Garner central and either one of:
A Conor Gallagher type fighter
A Wharton type ball player
An Alcaraz cutting edge player
Then we'd have some midfield.
The performance showed Moyes has instilled belief and fight into the players and theyre behind him.
We are 3pts off 4th and 1pt off 6th. Moyes has to get this team into the top 8 this season based upon the shocking transfer window - do that and he'll be around next season.
Finish top 8 and splash another £150mil and then have a team that can and should consistently finish in europe. Due to players wanting to sign for that side and not a relegation candidate.
Agreed. Alot will come down to the use of younger players and whether he can get this squad into the top 8 to attract new players. He tends to do well 2nd half of the season so needs a good January and to stay within a few points of the european places.
You can only really argue one of those has improved this season. It’s less than ideal. Alcaraz will be gone next summer. Solid chance one of Dibling or Barry joins him at this rate.he still has Rohl, Dibling and Armstrong to add to the squad.
could be looking at a first team with O'Brien, Brantwaite, Garner, Rohl, Armstrong, Dibling, Alcaraz and Barry. Not sure all those will make it but It's not like there are no younger players coming through.
He's using seasoned pros to get us out of a mess.
We just beat United away and you're still moaning. Can tell you're from nowhere near Liverpool, you massive flute. You can only really argue one of those has improved this season. It’s less than ideal. Alcaraz will be gone next summer. Solid chance one of Dibling or Barry joins him at this rate.

Belief and fight, great, awesome. We need to instill chance creation and territorial control. I get today wasn’t the day to see that but we’ve played a lot of games. We also need player development and there’s been precious little.
I’ve said before and I’ll say again: Moyes status beyond this season shouldn’t be determined by his league position.

Well we’re not going to finish top 8 so we won’t have to worry about that scenario. The question is what they do when we go from 13th to 11th.Over the 2nd half of the season, if not before, we need to see some more of these younger players being brought into the 11.
By season end there should (ideally) be an 11 with a decent number of the older heads having gradually been replaced by younger players.
The ownership and senior management are not going to sack David Moyes if he finishes in the top 8.
Thats the reality and its down to 2 things.
1: Going from 13th to 8th
2: Moyes having previously achieved top 6 consistently with Everton
Sure, if he gets everton 8th this and into the top 6 next season and then doesnt push on then there may be a situation where he is replaced.
You dont need to have "territorial control" to be a winning side.
Alcaraz, Dibling, Iroegbunam, Rohl and Aznou have to be used more frequently past January.
By the end of the season the has to be a situation where we can see that some of these younger players are going to be able to replace older players. Not only due to ages but so the team can evolve.
We arent going to and cant go into next season with the same 11 or similar that began this season.
The difference emotionally between this and the last time we won there is night and day for me. The club wore me down. I thought I was back in earlier this season but it’s just hard for me when we keep getting back on this same path of nothingness. Call me whatever you feel like I guess. We just beat United away and you're still moaning. Can tell you're from nowhere near Liverpool, you massive flute.

Feel free to follow another, better team then. If you can’t take joy in beating the Mancs in their own backyard you’re not an Evertonian.Well we’re not going to finish top 8 so we won’t have to worry about that scenario. The question is what they do when we go from 13th to 11th.

I don’t want to follow a better club I want our club to achieve something meaningfulFeel free to follow another, better team then. If you can’t take joy in beating the Mancs in their own backyard you’re not an Evertonian.
Thought Barry was excellent tonight, and last game. Theres a player there. You can only really argue one of those has improved this season. It’s less than ideal. Alcaraz will be gone next summer. Solid chance one of Dibling or Barry joins him at this rate.
