2025/26 David Moyes

As much as I agree with all that are saying it’s on Moyes tonight. I do agree with that.

But them players he picked who you’d of thought would want to prove a point, were all entirely useless & should be ashamed of that performance.
I think this comment sums it up most for me. It is definitely on Moyes but the players who come in let him down.

It’s definitely the end of the road for Coleman and McNeil. I don’t think Tim has got many/any minutes left in him.

I just will never understand it. All the talk is about bringing silverware to the blue side of the Mersey. Why play a weakened side then imo easiest road to that silverware? Because everyone else does? Well just **** them, should be an even better reason to take that different route.

Having said that, is it just too much to ask to show some heart and desire for those who are playing? Just seems it really is the most pointless competion from an Everton perspective. Even pre season seems to be rated higher.
If you put a weakened team out it sends a signal to the players that the competition isn't a priority.

Good post but it really frustrated when watching some players who appear not to be making sufficient effort. We can accept that the last 20 odd years mean we are not going to get top top quality but you at least want to see evidence that those wearing the shirt are committed. My perception is that was not the case tonight.
I should have said for some not the whole team.

The problem mate was that the side was just so patchwork and clearly underprepared for that game tonight. It was as if he just decided to bench all of our best players and told the rest of them to go out and get some ball in their legs without much if any semblance of a gameplan..

Totally lazy and does nothing to quieten the narrative that Moyes has never taken the league cup seriously.
Agree with you mate. 2 to 3 changes tops to keep consistency in the side, but that tonight was too many… I’d have gone Dibling, Beto and Alcaraz but no more. Team was clearly disjointed and it showed from the first minute. I just can’t understand it as it just seems so obvious… 🤷‍♂️

Take it on the chin, its essentially a brand new squad collectively, bound to be ups and downs.

I agree, I’ve just said in the match thread,
we all want success but it won’t happen overnight. We need to be patient.

We’ve gone from appalling managers and a mental owner to relatively level headed stability.

We need to build on that, and not throw our toys out of the pram after a cup exit.

From a sanity point of view it’s not healthy to swing to full-on negativity after a bad night.

I feel this is almost purposefully ignoring the main issues people have tonight, just to defend the manager

I personally have plenty of patience for us to get better, even under a manager I don’t like, but that has nothing to do with what looks like a decision to field a weakened team and gamble on going through in one of our two chances of a trophy.

You can have patience for our recovery from the recent disastrous seasons whilst still thinking Moyes is a blert for doing what we have seen him do before, and being annoyed or angry at being out of a cup without giving it our best shot….again.

Patience when we do our best (manager and team) but lose, yep. Patience for a manager repeating the same mistakes he himself has made in an important game, no.

As an extra point, I think there’d be a much better chance of the patience many of us see as necessary if they hadn’t kept on a manager who a lot didn’t like or really want. Always going to be the case that he will get a quicker backlash than most managers. Add the circumstances tonight and it’s as clear as day, he will get it from all sides and will have started a snowball rolling now if it’s compounded with a run of poor results.

(Ideally we bounce back and go on a run, as I do think stability is better this season)

Can see what you're trying to say but for me, every cup exit should be seen as a travesty.

None more so than ones that are self imposed.

1995.
Just no need to make so many changes.

Yes start dibbling, Alcaraz and Barry maybe. But rest of the team shouldn’t have been touched.

We have just won fairly comfortably here a few weeks back, it’s the start of the season and players are fresh, we have no European football to worry about, had a decent start in the league and there’s another international break coming up soon enough.

Managed to introduce a negative mentality to this season when there was no need - I like Moyes but that was vintage knife to a gun fight stuff.

He's just punched a lot of Evertonians on the nose, and it'll do him no favours.
If he’d put out a close to first choice team and we’d lost I’d have said “we are cursed in this cup” and would have moved on.

But 7 changes…utterly fuming.

Especially as he waits so long for subs in league games we’re winning, why not try out fringe players then!
