2025/26 David Moyes

Yeah, utter self sabotage.

Would have largely wiped out the derby result too if we’d made a decent show and positivity would carry into the next game.
I just will never understand it. All the talk is about bringing silverware to the blue side of the Mersey. Why play a weakened side then towards imo easiest road to that silverware? Because everyone else does? Well just **** them, should be an even better reason to take that different route.

Having said that, is it just too much to ask to show some heart and desire for those who are playing? Just seems it really is the most pointless competion from an Everton perspective. Even pre season seems to be rated higher.

I agree but what irks me is we win tonight it creates momentum or should do. What’s happened now is there is more pressure on the team to perform on Monday. Unnecessary pressure. We should be busting a gut to do well in the cup but I get the impression it isn’t that important from what I seen tonight.
In some past years we’ve been so diabolically bad that I could understand focusing on the league to the exclusion of all else, still not sure I agreed with it but at least could understand it.

Tonight it seems crazy not to have put out a first choice team against a badly weakened and demoralized Wolves.

As much as I agree with all that are saying it’s on Moyes tonight. I do agree with that.

But them players he picked who you’d of thought would want to prove a point, were all entirely useless & should be ashamed of that performance.
The problem mate was that the side was just so patchwork and clearly underprepared for that game tonight. It was as if he just decided to bench all of our best players and told the rest of them to go out and get some ball in their legs without much if any semblance of a gameplan..

Totally lazy and does nothing to quieten the narrative that Moyes has never taken the league cup seriously.

It's a shocking statistic that during his first spell here it took him until the 2007/08 season, nearly 6 years after he took over, to even get us to a quarter final in any comp.

That's how little focus Moyes has on the cups.

He's here for 2 more years.
There'll be more performances like this - in cups and league.

I just hope he keeps us mid table, improves the squad and we get new manager in 2027.

That's the reality.

It's on players too. He's given a few the chance to compete for places tonight, make it hard for him to leave them out.

But they've bottled it and stunk the gaff out.

He's completely lost me tonight. Not only did we get knocked out but it's actually convinced me we aren't doing anything in the league either. The players in reserve, who we're going to need throughout the season, are absolutely garbage.

I've always been pro Moyes and tried to defend him but he just broke one of the key rules for me. Its unacceptable to pick a team like that and go out of a competition. I know it sounds drastic but I honestly think he should be sacked. I said exactly the same about Silva as well.

Its nothing new, he's done it before and he'll do it again.

He's just halved our chances of silverware and its only the 2nd month of the season.

Lads, lads (and lasses), let’s not go overboard after back to back losses against the top and bottom of the league.

We’re not getting relegated with the Moysiah at the helm, strap in and get ready for ‘we’ve had good times - pt2‘

I agree, I’ve just said in the match thread,
we all want success but it won’t happen overnight. We need to be patient.

We’ve gone from appalling managers and a mental owner to relatively level headed stability.

We need to build on that, and not throw our toys out of the pram after a cup exit.

From a sanity point of view it’s not healthy to swing to full-on negativity after a bad night.
Good post but it really frustrated when watching some players who appear not to be making sufficient effort. We can accept that the last 20 odd years mean we are not going to get top top quality but you at least want to see evidence that those wearing the shirt are committed. My perception is that was not the case tonight.
