2025/26 David Moyes

I think there's been two games in which our performance has made me think we deserved the 3 points - Aston Villa which we drew, and perhaps Wolves away.

Brighton and Palace I think we were fortunate. "On another day..."sure, that's football - like vs Villa. If, but and what not - but there's still a lot to be said for performances and in my opinion, from the 9 league games, our performance has deserved wins in just 2. We've managed 3.

I tend to work on the basis of "did we create more/better chances than the opposition", as "performance" can be pretty subjective and is usually clouded by what the scoreline was.

On that basis, I'd say we are more or less where we should be and we are underperforming slightly against what I'd hoped for currently.

And yes - Wolves and Villa are the ones we can probably look back on and say "we deserved to win those games". Brighton, Palace, Spurs, West Ham and maybe Liverpool you could argue were close games and a draw would have been fair based on the chances created.

Leeds and City we very clearly didn't deserve anything from on the balance of the 90 mins.

We've got eleven points, and I'd say we probably deserve to be on eleven based on the above. Football doesn't work like that all the time, but I think we are W2 D5 L2 based on performances this season. I was hoping to have one or two of those draws in the W column at this point.

We all know how he'll line up and exactly how we'll play. So do the opposition, unfortunately.
Every man and his dog can see that the Beto/Barry situation is a bust. Playing with Ndaiye in the middle would be the sensible option but Moyes is too stubborn, always has been.

Part of it is we cannot flood the box at the moment due to defensive issues. Beto and Barry aren’t great, but they are being made to look worse as we cannot risk giving them too much support as we cannot defend against pace with confidence due to our slow central defence.

Even the Echo are making more sense of the options than Moyes.

The Echo seem to think we have had a good start. 10 games is usually the optimal time to talk about starts. We've played 9 and sit 14th, with 9 goals in 9 games. Right now, that's not a good start. Win at Sunderland in match 10 and we've made a respectable start as we will sit mid-table, comfortably. It's always fine margins this early in the season when making judgements - but I wouldn't be too quick to consider the first 9 games as anything other than mediocre. And we're trending down. The more matches we play, the worse our start appears to be, in general.

That needs to be arrested on Monday or November could get tense.

11 points off 9 games after spending a lot of money is absolutely not a good start.

Yep, as soon as I read that first line I thought they're taking the piss. Sit 14th and out of the League Cup, thats not a good start in my world.

14th is hopeless. If we dont get 4 points at least from Sunderland and Fulham then with United, Newcastle and B'mouth away we'll be in the relegation zone.

The article though makes some sensible suggestions on team changes...that Moyes wont consider.

"They aren't great"? With either on the pitch it's like playing with ten men.

November is spawning something of a monster for the Moyesiah, too, what with matches against two former clubs who sacked him and an Everton reunion with Marco Silva to help us compare notes.

A loss to Sunderland or Silva would be seriously damaging. Both could be fatal. He'll get a pass at United, as he always does, even if people were openly laughing at Amorim a fortnight ago.

Seven points from these three, Davey, and even I might think you're worth another 12 months in May.
