2025/26 David Moyes

I agree. Makes our committee look really foolish last summer after all the chasing of him. I’m less bothered by Aznou as it was a relatively cheap punt.

I’m just playing devils advocate that Moyes not playing teenagers could just be because they aren’t better than the other options (which would be damning on them yes when McNeil is one of the other options).
Not sure how much it was chasing. More like it was what was available and someone we could actually get over the line.

Transfer fees have changed beyond recognition. The cost of young players has gone through the roof and into the stratosphere.

Why? Would you play a random teenager in your starting eleven just for the sake of it?
Random? We're not pulling in a lad off the stands in this - if you think Armstrong couldn't do as good or better than Gueye in the last 6 months/since AFCON you have issues you need to address.

Dibling can't do better than McNeil either, as per yourself here.

You're definitely just David Moyes in disguise.

Come on Davey, are you seriously going to act that in FIVE whole years there was never a time where there was an injury crisis in a position, where an eligible teenager could have played, but instead you played one of your tried and trust CB's or CM's out of position?

For me this is one of the worst stats I've ever seen about a manager. I'll never take anyone serious who defends Moyes, who genuinely believes there was never a scenario in over 5 years that an 18/19 year old could never start a game for him.
Who was it at West Ham though? They're not just going to throw any teenager in for the sake of it, they have to be good enough, especially to start. In comparison, I think we started four teenagers between the start of the 20/21 season and the end of 23/24: Chermiti and Dobbin started one each, but Gordon and Branthwaite were comfortably better than any youngster West Ham had. It's not worth getting angry over.

So you genuinely believe that in 5 years West Ham did not have 1 young player capable of starting a game of football? It's just nuts to defend.

Using us as an example just further shows that Dinosaur managers which includes Moyes, will not play young players and further exasperates the point that we as a club MUST move away from these managers or we will never compete properly in the modern game.

He actually gave many teenagers starts over the past five years. They were just concentrated in cup and European competitions rather than the Premier League.

It’s just another cherry-picked statistic to try and paint him in a negative light.

That certainly is a possibility and maybe even the likeliest scenario as it stands but let's be clear here, paying as much as we did for him to do what he's done is a hell of a lot more than 'a mistake'. Him not having much impact would make it a mistake. Him barely getting on the pitch is an unmitigated disaster. He's played one minute of league football in 2026, barely got even asked to warm up while we stumbled over the line with 5 losses in our last 9 games. We've either handled him horribly, made a frankly outrageous cockup in the transfer market, or both.
Yep and neither one looks good. Either way it's not a good reflection on putting Moyes in charge of transfers!

Who should have been playing though? Just to show how silly it is, Brentford, one of the darlings of the develop young players brigade, have started one teenager in the Premier League: Yehor Yarmoliuk, who started four games when he was 19.

It's completely dependent on the situations of individual players. There is not one manager in the Premier League who picks teenagers who aren't good enough.
