I didn't expect a huge upturn in home form this term, but the manager is self-servingly deluded if he thinks what has transpired is remotely adequate.

If the plan was clear last season

Sign 2 starters and a bunch of kids

We'd understand

But that would not happen as then we can say the plan failed. No development of kids.

So what was the plan?

I have no concept of the plan for next steps...

I just don’t see how the starting line up for next season isn’t based on:

OBrien, Tarkwoski JB/Keane Mykolenko

Garner Gueye

Ndiaye KDH Grealish

New striker.


I don’t see who he’s going to drop to upgrade anyone if all these players are fit. He’s not going to put Tarkwoski’s nose out by running OBrien and JB together. I doubt we buy a top class left back who Moyes will trust to take over from Mykolenko unless they’ve already got a bag of PL experience. If Gueye stays he won’t change that midfield three at all. If we re-sign Grealish then him and Ndiaye are certainties.

So we might change the striker if we get an upgrade in the summer. Even then though Barry and Beto have 17 goals between them. Is a new striker going to get that many if they play every game?

It’s going to take a number of brave decisions right down the spine of the team to push us on.

Dropping Tarkwoski and Mykolenko. Dropping Gueye and moving KDH deeper into an 8 and getting another top class 8 beside him. (Or playing Rohl or Alcaraz as a starter there). Dropping one or both of Grealish and Ndiaye for top class wide players who score double figures.

If we keep the same team they’ll just deliver the same results.

It seems to me that he holds a pretty boring press conference and then afterwards his PR team read this and realize it fell pretty flat ( again), so they release a follow up story about ambition and fighting etc...so for me, show me your ambition with your team selection and how the team is set up to play on the pitch. There are still two games left...

He leaves players out there that are dead on their feet, late into the game while opposition make changes and get fresh legs on usually putting us under massive pressure.

If we're talking about players switching off then 90% of the time it's Keane, Tarkowski or a combination of the two - who Moyes continues to play together despite it being obvious to everyone that they bring the absolute worst out of eachother.

How are these things not Moyes' fault or responsibility? A Manager isn't just a cheerleader that does press conferences, it's his job to make these decisions and influence games.

Alright so I've got you down to just set pieces, which I mean we've conceded from a few corners this season but I would hardly say its the biggest issue we've had.

And tbf, how you set up to attack or defend set pieces is ultimately the managers responsibility. If you're conceding too much from set pieces it's the managers job to address that. Its been the season of set pieces with loads of teams having success in that area and the set piece coach becoming crucial for Arsenal, Villa, Brentford and a handful of other teams. Moyes got Charlie Adam in to do it at the end of last season, got rid because he was rubbish and done nothing about it since.

Abject Mediocrity FC it is... One more season of this under the aegis of a rebuild is totally fraud. Should have qualified for Europe this season, in some form, cup victories or league form.

Yeah sorry Matty but as someone else has pointed out we haven't been missing bucketloads of sitters this season. Ndiaye and KDH missed a few in the last couple weeks but they look like they've been run into the ground by the lack of rotation.

Conceding last minute goals is a game management issue that I put completely on the manager. If its about Keane and Tarkowski playing together well then the answer is obviously to not play them together.

The only one you can give to Moyes imo is the decisions but realistically, being 3-1 up in the 84th minute against City, you should hold on regardless of any penalty situation. Game against this soon to be relegated West Ham, you should be winning comfortably without needing a call to go our way. Those decisions are scandalous don't get me wrong but there's a bigger picture.

Why should we be beating West Ham ‘comfortably’ btw? We are a mid table Prem team.
They have lost one of their last 7 at home - a very narrow loss to Arsenal.

You would think Moyes had the Real Madrid squad by some of the comments on here.

We do everyone else a favor for their position except ourselves. With our position and squad, we were well in with a shout for Europe and we let it squander. Not because of injuries, not because of squad depth, not because of fixture congestion or whatever. Just apathy towards ourselves.
