2025/26 David Moyes

Im not convinced moyes brought Barry here. Or it was all on him. Everything about Barry is the opposite of what Moyes tends to go for.
I might be wrong. I dont think anyone on here knows tbh. Despite what they claim.

The athletic & others who i cant remember now said be had sent Charlie Adam + 1 to scout Barry.

Im not sure who you think could have signed Barry over Moyes head?

I almost want to ask if it may be the wizard of oz but i shall refrain from doing so.

Perhaps Pandora pulled him out of her box?

I've no idea who's idea it was originally to put Barry forward as an option, though it's irrelevant really anyway as it's fairly well established now that Moyes is the one with the final say - and let's not forget that no manager in world football is literally solely responsible for these deals, they don't go out on random scouting missions and identify players from scratch - but I wouldn't say he's the opposite of what Moyes go for at all. A 6ft 5 unit with good physical attributes and a willingness to run around is right up Moyes's street in theory.

I dont know if Barry was already in the pipeline by the time he got here.
Its only an opinion based on most Moyes signings down the years. I thought the dithering dave tag was unfair. He put the emphasis on character just as much as ability.
Moyes isnt signing Barry in his first spell here when no DOF were about. Guarenteed.

It’s mind boggling how Moyes, despite having said himself that he has final say, is still supposed to have had these players forced on him or somehow signed behind his back.

Even if it was a case of only being able to buy or veto what’s put in front of him, it’s still an absolute waste of money, but no doubt we’ll still hear about how we can’t spend as much as XYZ next window.

Personally I cant accept that he was the ONLY striker available and willing to come to us last summer.

I reckon it's far, far more complicated than that.
When transfers work out it's all Moyes, when they don't he's not responsible. Funny how that works.

No not at all. Dewsbury hall has a great attitude and i thought from day one he looked like the players moyes used to go for in the past. Like Cahill Gravesen Pienaar.
Barry looks to me like he's more interested in just how he does. The team comes after.

I very much doubt it was in the pipeline, there's very little at all to suggest that we had Thelwell signing off on deals when we knew he was going and I doubt Barry's fee would have been anywhere near as high at that point. I think the character thing is overblown with Barry, some fans have seemingly got into their heads that he's a nightmare but there's no reports out of the club about that and Moyes seems perfectly happy to pick him. I said the other day, he hasn't made it to the PL from where he was through pure talent alone so he's clearly a hard worker. Also worth noting that while we know Moyes tried to focus on character he didn't exactly have a flawless record in that regard - the likes of AVDM and Drenthe were absolute nightmares, Yakubu went AWOL after international duty and there were plenty of grumbles about the attitudes of players at the time which now get forgotten as we all don our blue tinted specs and hark back to a time when every single player would die for the shirt etc.

I mean you're literally saying KDH, who has done very well with us, was a Moyes signing and Barry, who has not done well, was not a Moyes signing. Which is exactly what I said you were saying. Good signing = Moyes, bad signing = not Moyes. Let me also guess, Grealish was a Moyes signing but Dibling and Aznou weren't? I wish st my work I could take the credit for everything that goes well but pass the buck for everything that doesn't.

So, to clarify, the way to tell if a signing was not authorised by Moyes is if they turn out not to be very good? Moyes has a 100% success rate and whoever else at the club makes the other signings has a 0% success rate?

Do you see why people can't take that argument seriously? Particularly as Moyes has said publicly, on more than one occasion, that he's in charge of transfers.

Royston Drenthe

Top characters, encouraging signs.

Lets not include passed out pro drinker Grealish.
