2024/25 David Moyes

That’s the most downbeat I’ve seen Moyes since he arrived.
It’s a bit of a reality check on how the club is perceived - we’re just a bottom half premier league club.

“My first thought was ‘yes, I was surprised’ because Everton is such a big club. Great traditions, what the club has stood for over the years, the new stadium is an exciting new move for us. But then you have another thought and you think again — we have been around the relegation positions the last five years and not far off the bottom.”

We all need to manage our expectations on the number and quality of new signings.
Disappointing but that’s the reality.

The ostriches won’t like this but maybe the so called bed-wetters were right all along…
The Friedkins are mismanaging this.

Their decision to bring back Moyes was an unqualified success. He got us safe in quick time.

However, Moyes is not the face to scream "come to Everton, we are in a new era!" He isn't a beacon for signing players we otherwise could not get. Not his fault, but reality. This is why I would have gone for a new face in the summer. Having said that, given the way the Friedkins have naively gone about their recruitment business, it's hard to see how they would have attracted a big name manager.

Basically, it all comes back to the Friedkins. They are failing.

Inappropriate Behaviour
"We're having a bit of a struggle getting ones in quickly," said Moyes. "But when you think again about it, we've been in or around the relegation positions for the last five years, not far off the bottom, so maybe there's been reasons for it."

If he ever gets an opportunity to drag the club down he'll find it.
As do you, you tedious bellend.

Jesus Christ...I'd hate to see who is.

Just a wild guess ?

Are you mental? We've been through enough turmoil. What if we got a new manager and he flopped and was out on his ear by xmas? We'd then be on our 3rd manager in 12 months. Fresh start eh? We need to get away from this mindset and we need a bit of stability for the first time in about 10 years.

Are they failing? This is the just an impatient football fan talking.

The club was a mess, especially on the footballing side of things. Like most institutions that need to be basically starting again, it is not getting done in a few months, it is maybe not even getting done in a year. There will be mistakes made, like any recruitment/business process, you think a person/idea is a right fit but it just doesn't work out. These are just the facts of football and life.

It is far too early to condemn anybody at the club for the decisions that are being made. I would say, let us see where are at Christmas, at the earliest. More realistically though, it will be the end of the season where we can fully judge the clubs situation and where we have improved and we have not improved and/or gone backwards.

I think Moyes has a decent enough standing in the game to bring in a type of player that we probably need right now. We are not going to be getting the big ego's, we are not getting the players that are being banded around for £50m+. What we need is some steady, relatively low risk players. Players that will be Moyes type players, they get us a foothold in the league and then we can move up a player notch, etc. Moyes is not it for the long haul, he is here to steady the ship. It will be impossible for us to go from 0 to 300mph, in this short period of time. Patience is needed.

Reality has set in for Moyes and the Friedkins.

We dont currently have teh pull they all expected.

I think we are reaching a little bit on some of these players linked, Kuba, Fofana, Grealish could ALL play for top CL teams....so make sens they wait as late as possible to see who shows their hand for them.

We MAY get 1 or even 2 of them at that point....but at what cost ?? We could have missed the boat on actual realistic players that we could have got in early.

Its a difficult situation, BUT I believe we will look much better come close of window.

Christ.

Last 2 seasons we've earned enough points to finish 12th and 13th.

22 points clear in 2023/24
23 points clear last season.

In the last 2 seasons - closer to Europe than relegation.

Should be looking up under new owners and new stadium, not back.

Exactly my biggest concern with Moyes when we appointed him was he'd be here this summer/new season when we desperately needed new life and a bit of swagger putting into the club. He needs to stick with Europe talk which I've said a few times was refreshing and unexpected of him, and not ref desperation and relegation. It does nobody, other than him and expectation management, any favours.

Or is it because we have been battling relegation for years and a decent player wants to come here.

We are trying to buy the wrong players again. Those that want Champions League or any European football.
We need to go for more deals like aznou and Barry. Perfect for us currently.

I hope Moyes gives them plenty of minutes and opportunities, he seemed to talk down aznou being involved quickly though, disappointingly.
