Not at all. The league allow that for registration purpose if the agreement was substantially complete subject to paper work but the contract will be dated on the date it was effective. It won't be back dated. It's not ethical for a lawyer to back date a document and would send alarm bells if a client asked me to do that.

Those very same conditions perhaps which enable clubs to agree contracts with one another with the players joining on a future date, if certain criteria are met.

Again, certain clauses taking effect in the future is not post dating something.

No reason to get defensive and jump to conclusions, my point was not to be negative towards Moyes. Hes a great manager and i have never claimed otherwise.

But - If your car is bunk and your current mechanic cant fix it, so you take it to a scottish one who improves the engine right away - do you owe the scot more than the agreed payment for his work?

Moyes has been brilliant, but we dont owe him anything more than you would owe your scottish mechanic.

He's well paid already. The extra reward for him is that he knows he's doing a great job and appears to be loving it

Post-dating is something that has occurred to even the smallest-brained amongst us.

It's not some brilliant idea. It's an obvious idea.

The fact that it isn't happening is evidence that it's a non-starter. Because the people who actually know what they are talking about obviously have said to the people that matter that it's a non-starter.

Personally think you are simply getting confused by the transfer window and the actual contract.

A player may sign a contract on the 1st June, but can only be registered with the league/FA on the 1st July. The contract is still valid from 1st June, as that is the date they signed it. I guess a club may get a verbal contract or something similarly informal, but it will unenforceable by law. I am not a lawyer but I guess that would be the case?

Anyway, back on topic. I like Moyes and trust him to some decent business this summer, he won't get everything done, and in turn wet some beds. There will be some papering over cracks but there is a lot to do, so that is totally understandable.

Never sure if he's just wumming, thinks he's engaging in jokey bantz, or genuinely incredibly skilled in being a bit boneheaded. None are good looks in truth.

I wonder if Moyes has a good grasp on contract law? I bet he does.

To be fair, isn't that what happens all the time?

Players on outgoing contracts can sign for new clubs 6 months before the end their current contract.

Spurs announced four days ago that they agreed a transfer with Bayern for Tel. That he'll join the club permanently July 1st at the end of the loan agreement.

Same with Alcaraz:

Everton have triggered the option to make Charly Alcaraz a permanent signing for an undisclosed fee when his loan from Brazilian side Flamengo concludes next month.
...

The permanent deal will see the 22-year-old sign for the Blues until the end of June 2027.

Not sure what the correct terminology is. Pre-contracts perhaps?

Point is, there is nothing that stops Everton from agreeing transfers that will be effective from July 1st.
