2024/25 David Moyes

Oh, I agree. But I maintain his return was for short-term gain - necessary - and will come with a cost., i.e., The "reboot" has now been delayed.

Moyes has done well - but he's never the answer in even the medium term. But he's here now and will be stolid, competent, and professional. And that'll have to do for now.
Moyes isn't a bad manager, he's not a great manager either. He will get best out of defenders and Gueye, he has made us look more dangerous up front in every game, bar tonight. But he will always be a Waitrose Sean Dyche, has no plan B, and tends to bottle big decisions, hence his nickname dithering Dave. We needed someone to calm game down in 2nd half, I would of put Tim on. Dourcore could actually do decent job against Arsenal, chasing them down. Keeping Doucore on and Harrison surrendered possession to them. Other subs were just panic subs, Moyes will lead battling performances against Arsenal and City at home. But he just craps himself in big games.

We didn’t hire Moyes to get wins in big games (this season at least), we hired him to keep us up which barring something strange happening, he’s done comfortably. I wasn’t keen on hiring him again but he’s done a great job this season.

You are spot on. I know myself that my standards of that team with Pienaar, Baines, Cahill etc isn't good enough for where this club once was, but compared to what we have now it's like night and day.
Oh, absolutely. For me, nothing compares to most of the 80s side, of course, but we still had some good players since then: Baines being one of them. Cahill was a personality player - he would have been very useful in any team for his character. Pienaar was a very clever player. But too many of our "heroes" are nothing of the sort. And, since Kenwright joined the board, you can count on one hand how many genuinely gifted players we had: Beardsley, Kanchelskis, Speed, Rooney...I'm struggling now. Lukaku was very good.

Duncan Ferguson sums us up. Tremendous on his day, but his days were few and far between, and so he became something of a myth. And he's basically the "standard" of the last 30 years when it comes to Everton heroes. He wouldn't have got a kick in the 80s side because he wouldn't do it reliably on a wet Tuesday night at Coventry.

That's the point I'm making he can take us to Brighton and Palace and get 4 points, but he always bottled it Anfield, with better players as well. I'm confident we will get at least a draw on Saturday, will we get anything at Chelsea? Doubt it. He doesn't get results in big games.

Liverpool have W12 D2 and L1 at Anfield this season, teams haven’t been going there and getting much at all. Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool have massively better and deeper squads than us. Until we get better players, we’re going to need luck or off days by that standard of opposition to get anything, especially away.

I agree he should have won an Anfield derby or two in his last spell when we were arguably better than them for a few of those seasons but Moyes said himself, the gap between the two clubs has never been bigger than what it is now.

He was calling in the excuses even before the match started.

He's a good manager but I'll never truly believe in us with him managing either.

So an improvement on recent years but it's hard to see how we progress
We've already progressed. No shame in narrow defeat tonight. Yeah he probably won't win us the league but there's no one on earth who would. Hard to know what we should expect.

Pretty much every team in England and, more broadly, club football bottles it at Anfield. The only realistic path to Europe and better potential players is to do well enough against the other teams outside the elite to sneak into the European spots.

At best you will get a rare away victory away to the very best sides, but the odds are heavily against you.

Not even Pep could have won that game when the attackers spent 90minutes trying NOT to score or hold on to the football.

Get him some players in the summer, then judge him, so far hes done superbly with the players available.

You play that game 20 times and we probably win it once. That's mostly down to the players rather than much the manager can do. Simple fact is we are miles away from them in nearly every position and it's demonstrated in the league position.
How about we just concentrate on this actual game instead of obfuscating.
