2024/25 David Moyes

Like his interview after the game though. Thought he spent far too much time blowing smoke up their arse before the game so good to see him actually coming out swinging for Everton in his post match interview.

What did he say mate?

I've got sympathy for him tonight. Your biggest rivals are top of the league and you're doing your best to compete with them with the squad we have at our disposal. What reassures me is that he knows we need to improve a lot. No delusions from him.

It's why I can't and never could truly embrace him.

He has a ceiling. Even inferior managers like Martinez will give you the odd moment of unexpected joy, if only because they have a gamble. There's no fantasy with Moyes, no dreaming. Competence, yes. But everything is rational and has a limit that he is too keen to embrace himself.

He's a good pragmatic manager that in majority gives you the results like here or West Ham with at times dull football, but he's not the top level pragmatic like SAF, Ancelotti or Simeone. That's why he's at Everton or West Ham and not Man City or Barcelona.

We need way better players, it's as simple as that.

Other than Pickford and Branthwaite, the rest could leave in the morning as far as I'm concerned. However, reality dictates that we must hold on to some of those, but nobody will ever convince me that the likes of Mykolenko, Garner, or McNeil - all of whom are very likely to stay - are up to snuff. We have more pressing needs elsewhere - a new striker, ball-playing wingers, a constructive midfielder - but most of this squad is sub-par and we're stuck with quite a few of them for a while yet. Nevertheless, we have a really good chance to start the rebuild in earnest this summer. Blow this summer and we can throw our hat at it.

Just saying they’ll have to think about us more in the future.

The whole club needs to get on the front foot against this lot more and start rattling the cage.

I agree with this
Thought he really pushed the interviewer on the Diaz offside.
It's about time we had someone calling these biased interviewers out.

All over the park isn't it? Nights like tonight can skew our perspectives because they are a very good side, but we can see it in all the other games too. We've worked hard to get the points to stay up but it's been a grind with this current bunch.

All the players you mentioned will either have to seriously improve or be moved on. As a fanbase we've got to stop lauding players for doing the absolute basics too. So many throughout the squad have stolen a living the past few years and shouldn't be goof enough to wear the shirt.

Yeah, I think the fanbase's pathetic adulation of plain crap players is grating on me more than the players' performances themselves at this stage. We have been so starved of quality players for so long that I am beginning to think anybody here under 45 really doesn't know quality when they see it - mainly because they haven't seen it.

Two players are worth the shirt. These two players would have been useful in our great eras. The rest? I'm sorry, but when Gueye is one of your best players - and he is - then you know most of your team cannot pass a football, because that's something he has never been noted for.

Pretty much says all about the quality in the cm, i really rate gana as think he makes many important tackles around the pitch. But agree in that midfield for years now we just csnt keep the ball or have a player directing the tempo spreading the ball across the pitch. Not even going to get into it out wide because well says it all

Gana wins a tackle and does tremendous work off the ball - but we need heroes on the ball. We have none.

You are spot on. I know myself that my standards of that team with Pienaar, Baines, Cahill etc isn't good enough for where this club once was, but compared to what we have now it's like night and day.
