Wonderkid is just a cheap media term, they miss genuine prospects and hype cart horses more often than not. I wouldn't put any significance in the assessment by journalists either way .

1m for a young striker is fine by me, EFC probably won't make a big deal of this one, as it just isn't a big deal, prospect is all.

Most sources who're reporting this are referring to him as a "wonderkid".

I'm not displaying any displeasure of him signing whatsoever.

I just don't think it's helpful to him that our fans will be believing that we have a 'genuine' wonderkid on our hands.
You don't know that he isn't though either. He could be very good, he could be useless. And I think we've signed enough "wonder kids" from Kilmarnock and the like for our fans to not get too excited when they hear the term used.

Ah. This will go a little something like this;

"Who is he? No mark. We need PROPER signings". Sort of like what we had with Stones/Coleman;

"John Stones, who is he like? We don't need another defender or youth player! If he was any good bigger clubs than Everton and Wigan will have been in for him and he'd cost more than £3m!"

"Seamus Coleman? Waste of time. Why bother. Will never play for the first team"

It'll then move on to a few YouTube clips, a few recommendations from foreign journos on twitter. Someone will post his Wiki stats that are probably made up. Suddenly, he's boss but he hasn't signed according to the rumours, leading to;

"WHY HASN'T HE SIGNED YET"
"Clubs a joke. Why haven't we signed him yet?"
"IT SAYS ON WIKI HE HAS SIGNED LADS?!"
"JOHNBOYEFC117 ON TWITTER SAID HE'S AT FINCH FARM"

No mark journo links to another Club for easy page views, causing a massive fume that we're going to miss out on a amazing talent, who days before, no one had heard of.

Ah, the all-too-familiar Everton transfer window.

Amused to see people complain £1 million isn't enough for him if he was any good, and others say £1 million is too much on someone who won't get 1st team football.

Must be about right then.

And I think we've signed enough "wonder kids" from Kilmarnock and the like for our fans to not get too excited when they hear the term used.
Right. No one thinking clearly expects him to be brilliant on day one. Especially when he only cost a million.

On the other hand, we've seen players like Stones and Coleman turn into great players. There's no reason why he couldn't do the same. That's the exciting prospect, not that he'll fly out of the blocks and score 20 league goals next season.
