Roberto Martinez has confirmed his interest in signing Anderlecht youngster David Henen and says discussions over a move for the striker are ongoing.

The Blues boss was asked about media reports linking Everton with the 18-year-old following his side's 2-2 draw at Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday night and admitted he is attempting to bring the player to Goodison Park.

Should a deal for Henen be completed, it is thought the Belgium youth international would link up with the Club's Under-21 side.

Well at least we know he wouldn't be seeing much action this season, at the very least.

Exactly , we must know more than we're letting on. Or we would have started discussions with other targets. Saying that, nobody knows whats going on apart from Martinez. He's keeping his cards close to his chest for sure.

Roberto Martinez has confirmed that Everton FC are close to signing Belgium teenager David Henen.

And the Blues boss has earmarked a place in the under-21's for the Anderlecht forward this coming season.

Henen, 18, is understood to have completed a medical at Finch Farm on Monday and Martinez says his proposed transfer - thought to be in the region of £1.5m - is "in the process".

Everton are said to have beaten off competition from Arsenal for his signature and Martinez is excited about the prospect of bringing the highly-rated youngster to Goodison Park.

Henen is a regular goalscorer for his nation's youth teams and spent last season on loan at Monaco B.

But now he looks to be headed to Everton where Martinez believes he will add a new dimension to the club's second string.

"He's a young, talented footballer who represents Belgium in the lower teams, in the under-18s and has had good experience in going to France," Martinez told the ECHO.

"He is a bright boy and we feel he is something different that we haven't got in the under-21s so we are hoping he is going to be giving us something different in that group,

"We want a strong group. We have already got talented and very interesting footballers and I think David can fit in really well in that environment."

Asked if the deal was completed, Martinez said: "It is in the process of being completed."

Martinez was speaking after Everton's opening pre-season friendly of the summer against Tranmere Rovers.

The Blues twice held the lead at Prenton Park but were pegged back through Cole Stockton and Jason Rowe to start their campaign with a 2-2 draw.

Martinez was pleased with the work-out his players received against the League Two outfit although there were concerns over the fitness of Seamus Coleman who limped off with a hamstring injury in the second-half.

The Everton boss, however, has moved to calm fears that the problem is too severe.

"It was a bit more precautionary," he said.

"He felt his hamstring and obviously since the start of pre-season we have accumulated a lot of volume and that type of reaction is normal.

"We will have to assess him well and prepare him well for the next work. We don't want to miss Seamus and so it was more about avoiding risks rather than any big worry.

"It is important we get the measurement right before we get to Thailand."
