Classy and measured response, I think. Gave credit where it was due, didn't whinge or whine, and didn't go overboard... that'll do

Everton manager David Moyes will go through a roll call of his players when he returns to the Finch Farm training ground following a record defeat in Europe.
A depleted side were hammered 5-0 by Benfica with four of the goals at the Estadio da Luz coming in the second half.
Moyes was without 11 players after Leighton Baines withdrew on the eve of the Europa League match with a calf problem.
That number increased with Russian winger Diniyar Bilyaletdinov finishing the game with a strapping on his thigh.
Moyes said: "We will need to assess him when we get back as well. I am not sure either yet who might be fit for the weekend."
John Heitinga and Lucas Neill are available again for Sunday's clash with Bolton - but Moyes refused to condemn his players after the caning by the Portuguese high-flyers.
It was Everton's first defeat in Group I and they conceded first place to a rampant Benfica.
Oscar Cardozo scored two of the goals with Luisao also on target in a breathtaking six-minute second-half spell.
With Javier Saviola starting and finishing the scoring it was a gruelling test for full-backs Dan Gosling and Seamus Coleman on his debut.
Moyes said: "That was the best team we had tonight. I have got to say they did the best they could and as good as they could.
"I have only praise for them. I have said to the players this is a different competition than the league, we've had two wins and one defeat. It is not too bad.
"Obviously tonight's defeat was not what we wanted but I would like to play Benfica with my best side.
"They have a good attitude and showed their attacking qualities in the second half and capitalised on several mistakes we made in that spell and took their opportunities very well.
"It shows them (the youngsters) the level they have to play at to get to the top."
Moyes singled out Benfica's Argentinian midfielder Angel Di Maria for praise.
He said: "I thought he was like an attacking full back, more of a winger. He did so many good things. He would have given a proper full-back tonight a real difficult game."

That's the bottom line. Moyes was right there not to give the opposition camp anything to bite on for the Nov 5th 'return' match - a series of excuses or 'promises' of revenge. A strengthened defence for the game at GP and we'll beat Benfica and more or less secure our passage.

Over on Kipper everyone wanted blood lol.

I've said on the other thread, hopefully its a kick in the arse we needed for players and manager after lucking out in previous weeks with poor performances.

Bolton is going to be very tough as they have some players that can play football. Everyone should be ready to step up and give it a go rather than be upset about getting beat by a very good side.

Losing to Bolton will be far more depressing prospect than last nights result which was, at the end of the day, meaningless.

I bet Coleman and Gosling are well chuffed with that.

Hats off to the man..it wasnt the ref,the wind or wank signings made by a mad spanish waiter he told it like it is we were crap

Hats off to the man he's worth his weight in gold.

Was a horrow show. Injuries were the key factor though. Does anyone agree that this weekend is the biggest game of the season for us thus far? We need a response at the Reebok.

Totally agree mate, it won't be easy though heads will be down.

Agreed Blair, he didn't duck the issue one bit(y)

I still think Coleman's going to be a player, a proper attacking fullback. Needs to improve his defending but that'll come with experience.

Even in a game like yesterday, playing out of position and half fit he was positive and tried to attack.

Gosling's not a fullback but I've been impressed with his heart and willingness to improve, he was ripped a new one yesterday but he doesn't hide. He kept plugging away, looked for the ball and tried to get forward.

Thing is you can't mask a poor performance, and I'm not buying all this old pony about 11 players being out.

We had Cahill, Fellaini, Jo, Yak, Saha, Distin, Billy, Gosling, Rodwell - all fairly experienced per man.

Truth of the matter is, and this is something that is concerning me.

Cahill - Having his worse season for Everton, personally I reckon he has peaked and is now on the decline.

Fellaini - Good player, but not a great player. Seems to play at his own pace, and if he's bad he's really really bad.

Jo - Anybody want to let me know what is the point of this lad? What exactly does he give to the team? He gives the ball away to the other team and seems to go down far too easily. Has no confidence in his own ability (maybe he has no ability) and is about as prolific as Heskey.

Billy - Can this guy actually go around a player? Does he possess that ability? Seems not.

And one other thing why are our players getting injured? A couple you can put down to bad luck, but not all of them. Quite a few players are getting strains, or are not coming back as quickly as expected, that is something to do with the way they are being trained.

One final thing, David Moyes' response last night was disrespectful to the 7000 fans who had travelled over there. Ok, so were apparently depleted, but nobody who isn't a first team player travelled (bar 1 I think), he could have done more with the side, he could have not played Jo, he could have instilled better tactics, prowled the touchline more.

Seems to me he wasn't that arsed and had already accepted that a defeat here isn't a bad thing.

WTF??

WTF??

I honestly dont get that.

He's missed a few sitters, fair enough but he's on the decline?

He's a potent attacking midfielder/support striker. Apart from playing as an attacking midfielder in less than maybe 2 games, he's played generally as a central midfielder/defensive midfielder helping out Rodwell defensively (ie deep) or as a right winger.

So because he's quiet in central midfield, and piss poor on the wing, and missing a few chances from the 1 quality cross out of 90 awful ones in a game - he needs benching/selling/flogging.

Its all I read on Kipper last night.

.

So what is he good at then? Arriving late for corners? For me he has been a one trick pony for the last few seasons. I like Cahill, he should be better for us, but he just doesn't do enough.

Doesn't get hold of the ball enough, doesn't make any runs into the box anymore, I don't think we should flog him but I'm certain we have seen his best years.
