Dave Nugent!

He knows what playing for the royal blue jersey means to us. He's never had a decent run of premiership matches to prove himself so why not?

as Sharpy said he'd walk to Goodison from Portsmouth to play for us.

With Rangers & Celtic both being out of Europe now, they both have an over-abundance of striking options given the fewer matches they'll have over the rest of the season and they'll probably be looking to lighten their wage load due to the resultant lower income - a loan til summer would seem to suit both parties.

The likes of Boyd, Novo, Hesselink, McDonald or even Samaras could do a better job than Nugent.

Plus it's about time someone got McGeady into the Prem.

He would get absolutely slaughtered here, he makes Yakubu look like a workhorse and a half.

If he hasn't played a full game for portsmouth, I think it's a bit harsh to be writing him off as 'not premier quality'. If you'd only seen Lescott this season you could easily arrive at the same conclusion. Jagielka was getting slammed by most on this forum as championship standard coz he was played out of position. Any player needs a run of games to find his feet, and sometimes players aren't suited to certain clubs, managers, coaching methods or whatever. He may well be useless but I don't think anyone can say that without seeing him over a longer period.

Good points.

He's a lazy [Poor language removed] for sure, but he takes his chances well and doesn't need to be asked twice to bang one in - good strikers aren't expected to track back or anything other than find the net. (van Nistelrooy, Santa Cruz, Torres, Eto'o etc)

At 25, to be the 2nd highest scorer in SPL history (ironically behind Henrik Larssen) speaks volumes to me compared to Nugent's recent track record!...

Easily the most amusing post i have ever read on this site.

Boyd, i am a fan of, but not in a team like ours wher the manager needs unlimited work ethic.

The rest you have named are absolutely honking and struggle to score against defenders in the spl who make titus bramble look like maldini.

I honestly cannot wait for someone to sign mcgeady for the premiership, iv actually been waiting with baited breath for liverpool to do the deed. Mainly because he is quite possibly the easiest player to shut out a game of football i have ever seen.

Its ok though, i have faith in dm to see what i do.

Nugent is not the answer imo btw, but to even include any old firm striker in the reckoning is beyond belief.

Not for me Nugent, scorer of good goals but isn't a good goal scorer. Much rather have Larsson, Martins or just give the kids a go, Saha looks like he will be back before the transfer window so I don't think we'll need him then

I stand by Boyd's stats and Novo has a far greater work ethic than just about anyone I can think of.

Hesselink still makes the Dutch national team, McDonald's scored more than a goal every 2 games as well as against Man Utd & AC Milan whilst yes, Samaras is a pile of [Poor language removed].

None will come - was just pointing out better than Nugent alternatives.

I totally agree with your opinion... just Eto'o doesn't fit on this list, since he is working extremely hard for a striker, probably the hardest working guy on defensive end out of all top world strikers.

Regarding Nugent - waste of money, waste of time, waste of space. If he wouldn't be "Blue" he would be absolutely slaughtered here, it's only think which makes him look decent in some people's eyes. I'd rather sign nobody, at least we won't be stucked with not needed contract, when all our forwards will be back.
He would be James Beattie 2.0 - on one side much cheaper, on the other side, Beattie was at least succesfull with convering penalties. But both can not play on level we need...

We dont need any of that SPL rubbish. We had the last "Scottish Rooney" and he was a waste of space. Boyd and Novo FFS!

I've never really had a proper look at Nugent to be honest, I've seen the odd game but I couldn't comment on his ability or his attributes.

What type of striker is he?
